Game STILL doesnt close in task manager after program shut down

So… you shutdown your PC, and turn it back on, and New World is still open?

Sorry, only way to close the game fully is to restart the PC.

I only have this issue if I alt F4 the game when closing, closing the game normally doesn’t do this for me

If I try to reopen the game after alt f4 I get steam error saying game is open, I can close it in task manager but steam will still say it’s open, and if I try to close steam it has a hard time shutting New World down. And when I do get steam to shut down, reopening still doesn’t fix it. Restarting the PC is only fix.

Closing down the game via Exit to Desktop has helped, but hopefully there can be an official reply to this

This doesnt work for me. I have tried to close it out from main menu, logged in, alt f4, and right clicking closing from task bar. I have had the game close fully twice from right clicking from task bar. What a game.

Hello brinedcucumebr,

Welcome to the Lost Ark’s Forums.

I really appreciate you’re communicating to us about this issue, and I want to thank you for sharing the troubleshooting you have done so far. Also, I want to thank Herbandwarfare for all the help provided.

I just want to confirm if you already made the troubleshooting related with AGS Files that are linked within New World:

  1. Windows + R type in %APPDATA%
  2. Go to Local and Roaming (Both files will include an AGS file) and open them.
  3. Rename the AGS sub-folder ‘‘New World’’ to something different like ‘’_New World"
  4. This will refresh the cache files within New World and remove the error closing the game.

Please let us know as soon as possible if after these troubleshooting the problem persist.

Thanks for all your feedback and specially your patience. :man_mage: :small_blue_diamond:

Hello brinedcucumebr,

I’m really sorry you still are having issues closing New World after the most recent patch.

This is not the intended experience we want for our adventurers!

Due to this issue, I’d suggest to please contact Amazon Games Customer Support using the link below and keep handy the following information:

  • Character Name.
  • Region.
  • World / Server.
  • Computer Specifications.
  • The previous troubleshooting you’ve already made.

Once more I’m sorry for the inconveniences this may cause! :man_mage: :small_blue_diamond:

Thanks Cactacea. Unless I’m given a daily gold cap, I dont think there will be anything that Customer service will be able to accomplish. Especially if we can’t figure it out here. I will continue to bump daily until this gets solved. It seems to be a small group of people.

Maybe to lay down underlying information, this did not happen with the PC I was using until I upgraded CPU, GPU, and memory. But as I stated in previous posts, I did the majority of everything windows related ( I think ). Apart from that, I DID flash bios, flash cmos when I placed the new hardware.

I only imagine that bow is being nerfed thats why I cant get a fix !!

I had a similar problem, where Steam didn’t get the memo that I closed the game…
Every time I closed the game, Steam still thought that the game is running.
I had to close Steam and reload it…

I had to uninstall Steam, re-install Steam and the game.
After that, all was good again

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried to do this as well, with a new directory, and it did not work for me.

OK, this sounds like a Windows problem (since NW is still in the Task Manager).

Uninstall the game and Steam completely including the steps from @Cactacea

Try to delete all associated files and folders connedted to the game.
Then restart your computer, then open cmd (or powershell) as admin, sfc /scannow then restart again, then
(open cmd (or powershell) as admin again) DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
then restart 1 last time.
Then install Steam and NW

Good luck,
Hope this help…

unfortunately probably a windows directory error youll never be able to track down…

id recommend a reformat…

Thanks this didnt work either !!
