Game will not run

I downloaded the game on steam and as soon as I run the game I ran into an error that says “the application failed to start correctly (0xc0000142)” and another from Easy Anticheat that says “untrusted system file c: \ windows \ system32 \ SensApi.dll ”.
While searching the internet, I came across several solutions that didn’t work and I uninstall and reinstall 4 time now and can not get the game to play any help would be nice thx.

Hello, @merlin33! and welcome to the forum community! Hey @Hiply Thanks for the help!

I’m sorry for the issue you have. Please try the following. Close and relaunch the Steam client. Then go to Steam Support :: Verify Integrity of Game Files. Then wait for 15 minutes and try to go back to the game. Make sure to check Launch Error: Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed

If you encounter the error ‘Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed’ when attempting to launch New World, please take the following steps:

  1. Look for your game directory( (usually …/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/New World Preview) and then go to the subfolder “EasyAntiCheat”.
  2. Click EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe to run the installer.

Once complete, try launching the game again.

Launch Error: Asset not found, unknown File version
If you receive the error message ‘Asset not found, unknown file version’ when attempting to launch New World, please try the following steps:

  1. Run a Steam Integrity Check.

  2. Completely uninstall and reinstall New World.

Game Crash: ‘Fatal Error NewWorld.exe’

If your game suddenly crashes and displays the message ‘Fatal Error NewWorld.exe’, please try the following steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Confirm your PC meets the Minimum System Requirements .

  2. Please note that Windows Insider builds are not supported.

  3. Run a Steam Integrity Check.

  4. Make sure your Windows install (Update Windows ) is fully up to date and no update is pending.

  5. Reboot System.

  6. Uninstall and Reinstall New World.

  7. Reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat.

Should these steps not work, please try to repair the Microsoft Visual C++ distributable 2017.
This can be found within Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 x64, select this then choose ‘Modify’ and then select Repair in the pop-up that appears.

If you are missing this file, please download it directly from Microsoft here: Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Docs.
*Note: Please ensure that you are downloading the correct version of the files for your system (either x64 or x86), you can confirm which version you will need based on the version of Windows you are running.

Anything happens let us know!

Same issue. Mine started today as well.

Something to do with the Windows 11 soft rollout if I had to guess. I put up a thread about this, no response from AGS.

The game is now unplayable for me after 600 hours logged. This is extremely frustrating.

sfc /scannow, reinstall of game, steam verify, latest drivers - none of it has any effect.

Same here.

Logged off the game about 12 hours ago. Didn’t install anything. Didn’t reboot. Came back this morning, game won’t start.

Steam integrity is fine. Rebooted to see if that fixed it, it didn’t.

Please advise

This problem just started today for me. Was working fine all the past days and I have done nothing to the computer to change anything to cause this. I did the dumb stuff they tell you that never actually fixes anything.

Hello @bazbar I’m afraid Windows 10 is the only officially supported OS for New World. No further support options available.

Hello, @Robstercraw @Meissa Sorry to hear game didn’t start for you guys either. Are you guys getting any sort of error message?

As outlined in the post in my thread - Windows 11 was disabled on my machine. However, Windows Update soft started rolling out updates to some .dll files.

My computer was actively unable to upgrade to Win 11 because TPM was disabled, so this error occured before Win 11 was installed - but Windows controls which .dlls get updated for which users.

In my case a full upgrade to Win 11 did resolve this issue for me.

So now I’m playing on a fully unsupported version just to get the game to start.

It’s all well and good to tell users that they shouldn’t use Win 11 - but no combination of restore points or repair methods AGS provided allowed my game to start once I got this issue. There is some incompatibility between NW or EAC currently and the latest soft rollout of Windows Updates.

I fully expect this problem to fester for weeks as user can’t play just like every other issue so far. We’re beta testing this game, not playing it.

I get the same error messages as OP:

  1. “the application failed to start correctly (0xc0000142)”
  2. “untrusted system file c: \ windows \ system32 \ SensApi.dll ” from Easy Anticheat

My problems started on Monday 11/1.

Maybe @bazbar is correct and it is related to Windoes 11 soft rollout .dll updates. My cpu doesn’t have TPM 2.0, so I can’t upgrade to Windows 11 like bazbar did to ~resolve their isssue.

Update: All my games using Easy Anticheat have similar issues (with different codes and untrusted .dll files) including Apex Legends and Chivalry 2.

Yes, “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.”

Then this message about sensapi.dll.
I haven’t been able to log in for the past few days.

Like the others, I also can’t upgrade to Windows 11 because of TPM 2.0. I wouldn’t upgrade if I could anyway.

This is extremely annoying.

Would you please be so kind as to bring this up with the anti-cheat people, this is obviously a mistake on their part, since that DLL is fine.

I solved my issue by doing a clean install of Windows 10, completely wiping all my drives. Not ideal, but it worked.
