  • What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced:

STEPS I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN:

  1. reinstalled the game
  2. removed appdata AGS folders in roaming and local
  3. verified integrity (repeatedly)
  4. verified windows integrity with sfc /scannow
  5. made sure EAC is installed/reinstalled/repaired (repeatedly)
  6. updated VC++
  7. updated windows
  8. updated graphics drivers

This issue started just today when I made the mistake of closing the game client to try to fix a stupid bug in the game having to do with covenant quests (couldn’t progress past Excubitor).

Now I can’t even start the game client.

this might help you :

Yeah I’m not installing random .dlls from the internet as a solution for this.

sfc /scannow should have detected any corrupted windows .dlls.

What this tells me is there’s some incompatibility between the latest windows builds and NW or something.

If you’ve ever used procmon before you’ll know that the advice there to search for the dll that is the problem is a rabbit’s hole. There’s like 30,000 entries for that process stack in procmon and even if I comb through them all, I’m not going to install some random dll from the internet to replace it.

So the next step here is what, reinstall windows and select an older build?

This issue started for me as a result of a Windows update. Fully allowing Windows to upgrade to Windows 11 (which I did not want) - ended up resolving this issue.

My speculation is that the partial install of Win 11 prior to having TPM enabled in BIOS (which prevents the full win 11 upgrade) caused some kind of compatibility issue with either the game executable or EAC.

So now I get the terrible performance of Win 11, but at least the game starts again.

Note that if I had the option to roll back to a non insider build of win 10, I would have done that but no restore point was available for me. If you can do that I strongly suggest you roll back the windows update rather than upgrading first. If that doesn’t work, then the upgrade did resolve this for me.

Interesting, I wonder if it’s due to the insider build. I have the same issue. I can’t upgrade to Windows 11 because my cpu doesn’t have TPM 2.0. I tried doing a new install of Windows 10 using the installation media tool, but it wouldn’t let me save my apps or data.

My other games using Easy Anticheat are having the same issue (Apex Legends and Chivalry 2), so I suspect it’s an EAC problem.

Is there some way to roll back to a pre-insider build then update to the latest Windows 10 build while saving my apps/data?

A friend had a similar issue, tried everything mentioned here. The solution ended up being us nuking EAC from his computer and New world with a fresh install, by nuking I mean after uninstalling the programs we actually had to wipe registry keys for EAC and new world as well. Then after a reboot and reinstall, he has now had 0 issues.

EDIT: If you are not familiar with clearing out regkeys DO NOT do this.

This didn’t work for me, although it’s possible I didn’t nuke it correctly.

Highly possible best option here if you are familiar with registry would be to fully remove new world and EAC, then run searches through registry for the keys. When we cleared out our regkeys we had to remove multiple regkeys per software if I remember correctly.

One other step I forgot to mention was after removing the regkeys we did have to reboot in order to clear out the software folders for EAC, as EAC was still running or being accessed in some fashion.

I solved my issue by doing a clean install of Windows 10, completely wiping all my drives. You could say I mega-nuked it. Not ideal, but it worked.
