I see the “risk vs reward” argument just keeps on reappearing.
It has been already debunked multiple times even on this forum, but I don’t mind doing it again
In every endeavor, be it game or finance or business the “ability” of participants to do well follows Gaussian distribution (in american language “bell curve”), whereas risk vs reward relationship is generally linear. What that means is that people at the far right of the distribution (simplistically those who are “the best”, although they can end up there due to various factors) get much higher proportion of the reward and very little risk, whereas everyone else essentially absorbs all the risk for diminished returns. “So what? Get gut scrab” - you say. But it is not that simple. The bottom 5% of people exit the endeavor (having been hit with massive risk and very little reward) and the entire curve shifts to the right. This happens again and again, until only few participants are left, after which risk disappears because participants basically start colluding with each other to minimize risk and maximize rewards.
We see it in games in EVE null-sec which for the areas owned by large alliances is safer than high-sec.
We see it in marketplace, where for what used to be high-risk endeavors we now have essentially what amounts to oligopoly (pharma, aerospace, gas turbine engines etc)
We see it in finance where there are 3-4 trendsetters and everyone else just follows them.
(Ofc IRL risk never disappears entirely because there are external pressures on the participants who contain risk factors, but in game, there environment is 100% controlled so “created risk” can be and is removed completely)
TL:DR version: risk vs reward is bull, long term this approach leads to bunch of guilds owning everything and colluding with each other
This thread is ‘People should be forced to PvP if they want to take MY resources!’
Ignoring the fact that they’re not anyone’s resources until they’re in a person’s backpack.
Skinning people’s kills; yes. Other MMOs lock kills to whoever killed it, or share loot.
Taking a node while you’re 2 feet away mining another node? No. It’s not yours just because you are there. There’s no ‘calling it’ and literally no other MMO has done this, either. First come, first serve, and that means ‘First one to start mining that exact node’ not the one next to it. Suck it up.
To be specific, by PvP we mean, fair fights that are organized, skill based, and opted into by all participants. Not PKing (Player Killing), which is a predatory behavior that relies on exploiting another player’s lack of experience, progress, readiness, or willingness. So for those folks who desire that harsh PVP environment, New World may not be your favorite game, however, we do hope you enjoy the PVP we will offer.
Who is we? You don’t mean anything to anyone, you are hugely unimportant, and not involved in any decision making. Amazon seem to want pve and pvp players.
You are not relevant, and neither is your mysterious “we”
An idea from someone else but buried in a large post was :
If a company declares war on a settlement the 2 companies are autoflagged only to each other as PvP active until the war is resolved.
This made sense to me and even if you into PvE this should make sense in the world we inhabit.
You joined a PvE Company… Then you wont be attacking settlements so you wont be flagged. You joined a company that does PvP as well then thats the Company you are in. Dont like that sort a PvE company.
no, just no…we already have servers that are completely one color. don’t feel like getting ganked by 50 greens every time i walk out of town and don’t feel like being a goblin again
Moving on. Hopefully, Ashes of Creations will be the PVP MMORPG I’m looking for. New World is fun, I love the gathering, the sounds, and the environment but the PVP content is lackluster with being locked out of wars & no meaningful incentive for open-world wars. Outpost rush is cool but it’s just not enough (especially with the bugs and exploits). And to add extra seasoning on top; the forum is full of people hostile to PVP players.
