I’m trying to get upgrades to my gear but despite everything I tried I haven’t managed to upgrade my gear (from drops).
I boosted my gear score as high as I could with quest gear and other pieces from the market, but at 560 average gs, I haven’t got a single gear drop above 515 gs. I ran through as much of the top of shattered mountain as I could, looting elite chests and killing named mobs, I ran through garden of genesis and lazarus, but not a single piece of gear from anything was above 515.
I have 0 clue if it’s just incredibly rare to find gear above 515 gs or not, but the market has multiple pages of 515+ gear that isn’t crafted and people have linked 590-600 gs items in the global chat on my server, so I get the impression other people are getting higher gearscore drops just fine.
I wouldn’t focus on the gear score alone. often i find a piece of gear with lower gear score yet has much better bonuses and stats for my builds. gear scores seem pretty wonky from what Ive seen.
I suspect this is where crafting is supposed to come into its own. With 200 in a craft skill with buff food etc i you will be able to massively boost your GS.
I’m more just curious how or why people are getting their higher gearscore drops. I have a lower score set already that has better stats, but unless I get stuff above 515 I’m not realistically going to ever be able to upgrade those pieces without resorting to crafting.
And don’t get me wrong, I have no issues if it turns out crafting is the way to go… but I’d like to be able to grind out some gear upgrades without investing into crafting the moment I hit 60.
You do PvE for crafting mats… craft one thing, get bad RNG and farm mats again. That is the end game to minmax your gear. 99.9% of the drops are meant to just get you going while you level crafting.
Crafting is almost certainly the way to go. Your only option for upgrades past the low 500s is expeditions, or crafting. (And expeditions require crafting for the tuning orbs).
Once you hit 60 they way your gear score goes up changes from 1-59. The only way your gear score will increase is via the water mark which contributes to what is dropped. At 60 the system becomes Destiny 2 exclusively. Only world drops and dungeon gear will actually increase your real gear score which in turn increases world drops. Crafted and vendor gear dont count at 60.
I did mention I ran gardens of genesis and lazarus instrumentality (both 60 expeditions) and I had the same thing with all gear drops being 515 or below, which is why I’m confused.
I get that crafting is definitely the way to get the absolute best items, but like I said, other people on my server are definitely getting gear drops above 515 which aren’t crafted and flooding the market with them.
This might be it, is it possible quest items don’t contribute to drops like crafted and vendor gear? I’ve been wearing the 570 victor’s hat from main story (I think) and 570 chest from completing garden of genesis, and both my 580 weapons are from the 20 mastery quests.
Yeah at 60 its based on that watermark stat in the bottom left corner. And yes you basically just equip the highest possible GS stuff you have and that will determine your drops. Quest items, crafted, and vendor stuff dont count and wont contribute towards your real GS.
