Gear Score & Expertise Clarification (regarding silver leaf ring)

After 2 weeks of farming (about 4 hours a day everyday) for the silver leaf ring in the eternal pool I’ve got to stop and get some clarification before stepping foot in there again.
In week one I got one drop. Not only was it not legendary it was horribly low. My ring expertise is 606 but I had a ring that was 513 GS on at the time.

I was under the impression that a higher GS/expertise would result in increased chances for a legendary drop to occur. At least something in the current range of expertise (590+ or something closer to 600) but instead I get a 542?
So then I grab an old ring I had on me that WAS GS600 in hopes that it would give me better results.

It did not… another week of farming and I get an even worse GS on the ring that drops while using a ring that has higher GS than the one when I got the first drop!? Am I supposed to have a 625 ring on to guarantee a legendary drop!? I get legendary armor to drop everytime I farm anywhere for anything and only My boots are 600…
I know that it exists as I hav friends that have gotten it to drop but this seems like it’s not actually working as intended. I have 600+ expertise and am using a 600 GS item but I get sub par drops for this one ring?

same thing with “earring of the hallowed soul” you can farm it and its in the new world data base as a legendary that can drop to 600 but I have only received it at like 540… how

It’s not based on your expertise or your equipped item expertise but in the mob level.

You can only get a 590+ item from lvl 64+ mobs.

why display it as a legendary then, thats the problem i think is false hope of something nice.

You need to farm last tentacle boss. Dont waste time with rest. It easily drops in 1-2 days with dedicated group.

Well if what @FlameStick said is accurate and correct then I shouldn’t have to.
All but the Aeonmeer Detonator are 64+. And while I can remember that one of the rings did in fact drop from one & do not think that they both did.
Also the finding of a dedicated group to help me farm something that I want and need is next to impossible. All day every day there are dozens of people wanting to farm something and all of their begging and pleading falls on deaf ears time and time again…

the last big boss in eternal pools will drop it 590+. I farmed this with a group a couple months ago and got multiple in a session and not one was under 590.

^This, I’ve also had it drop multiple times at 590+

@FlameStick So I want to be clear. Is there a dev/official forum post, tweet, etc… that explicitly states that monsters MUST be level 64+ for an item to drop with a GS of 590+?

This has always been true. Mobs drop gear based on the mob level. That’s why you can’t go farm level 8 trashmobs and get valuable gear.

Level 64 mobs are required to drop 590+ gear.

And even then it’s not guaranteed to be legendary. But, with named items like silver leaf, you can upgrade it with umbraks and get its 3rd perk.

Better to farm all the level 64+ mobs. Silver leaf drops from all if them.

Deeproot and lifespring are the only tentacle exclusive items.

Thanks, this is new information to me. It might also need to cause nwbd to have adjustments made to the way that it displays the named drops that come from the monsters in its database.
I’m aware of and agree with the concept of not being able to get GS 600 items from level 2 boar on the starter beach. However the difficulty involved in killing even a level 63 elite trash mob could and should give me a chance no matter how small of dropping an item that could be leveled up to 625 using umbral shards.
I’m also not 100% sold on the stated effect of third perks actually working in 100% of those cases when umbral shards are used either as it’s been noticed by others including myself that the perks that we see we get do not actually work as described…
:frowning:
perhaps one day these and most other bugs will be properly addressed and fixed.
FInally, as I mentioned previously all BUT that one monster in the area are 64+. And as I’m farming it solo I kill those few that I can and get plenty of 64+ killed.
Aeonmeer Elder
Aeonmeer Stalker
Aeonmeer Marksman
Aeonmeer Sunderer
for example.

That being said, it dropped to you from a lower level enemy who had lower ceiling GS.
The best way to farm that ring is from the last boss tentacle with a group of people. It takes only several hour.

I’m very skeptical of it dropping in several hours even if I had a group to help me with the task. Having only seen one for every 28 hours put into that place. Of the very few boss farms that I’ve participated in they NEVER last more than 1 hour let alone several. You must have some very nice, patient and cooperative friends to be able to help you farm that item. On every server I’ve ever been on there is never a group let alone a partner that is going to boss farm for that long.
I will however ask next time, just in case.

I just went there myself and there were people farming it :D. When they quit I spammed recruitment to get more people.

You are very lucky then. On my server average is 200 at any given time and probably no more than 300-400 at peak times… I have only once or twice seen any group farming there. And while I have jumped into a ZERG that passes through on it’s merry way that’s not always a guarantee either. I’m by no means saying that it’s an impossible task to get people to help me but it’s nothing that will be easy or consistent. But I have enough skill, gear and knowledge to continue to farm there on my own in hopes that it’ll eventually drop…

Idk if this will make it better but the next patch there will be The Depths mutation and it drops a ring that is even better than Silver Leaf. A lot of people will farm their way up so you can join M1s and get that ring.

Also, I see your screenshot, is there a reason you are upgrading only four pieces of gear, specifically head chest gloves and pants? Its the weapons that have the biggest impact on average GS.

Thank you for letting me know about that ring.
While that is a nice looking ring I disagree that it is better than the silver leaf. I’m constantly having to use mana & focus potions because the refresh rates on the skill are by far faster than my mana regen rate. The siphoning that is the third perk is really what I need and why I’m so desperately trying to farm the silver leaf. While I’m not one for mutations I might give it a try.
As for my expertise. Both my main (healer) weapons, void gauntlet & life staff are 625. It’s impossible to solo farm anything as a light armor wearing life staff using build. I spec’ed into intelligence & fire staff specifically to make farming these monsters in this zone easier on myself. I’m not going to waste umbral as rare as they are now for me upgrading a set/build that I’m only using to get a single BiS item for the set/build I plan to use as my main.

Probably wont help your particular situation of not having enough people on the server to get a farm going, but It’s possible to farm Archmagister Vocus in Myrkgard (the Dog Priest at the top), and he drops this:

Which is basically the same as silver leaf, with Focus/Con instead of just Focus.

If the top portal is down, you can leash him over to the side using a musket and fight him by himself without all the other trashmobs.
