to me this is the #1 thing destroying this game. I quit for months because of it. Came back because they improved on a few things. But this gearscore grind still remains and it is a disaster.
Agreed. They’ll implement catch up mechanics for expertise right before they increase it again. You know it’s going to happen.
But why are they doing it currently and alienating the majority of their playerbase who do not have the time to spend 1000 hours grinding chests? “catch up mechanics” are worthless if it still takes too much time out of players lives to ever get to enjoy pvp

Seems like they want a daily grind to keep numbers up/force players to log in daily like other MMOs. However, other MMOs reward daily logging in more. ESO as one example.
But it’s driving more players away than retaining, obviously.
I realized I dont lose at this game because Im not a good player. I lose because I have a full time job that isnt streaming on twitch. I lose because I can never commit the kind of time the streamers and unemployed shut ins can do. So playing the game is a waste of time. I only do it because I had such high hopes.
Gear score grind is implemented in almost any mmo you play. Thats not the issue. The issue is PVP has no way to scale lower GS players who are pretty much one or two shot by max GS players. You cant expect people to return to the game and blindly grind the game, hoping that the game experience is going to be worth it once they can legitimately participate in pvp.
Yes but what would probably be easier to fix? Make the gearscore less of a grind? or implement an OPR for just people under 600 GS? Seems difficult and divide players even more, would increase OPR queue times
I maxed mine out recently. They could change the entire system tomorrow and it would not phase me. Its good for the game as a whole to get new players and old players back. The expertise system is too oppressive to these players.

Well this one has an expertise grind, then a gear grind, then an umbral grind. Other MMOs I just get the gear drop and wear it.

no one said anything about making seperate queues. Im talking about scaling players that are under a certain GS up so they are not at a severe disadvantage against everyone else. imagine grinding to 60 to play pvp only to find out youre useless until you grind a couple hundred more hours just so you dont get bullied in opr. Theyve already talked about scaling in open world, months ago. Its definitely not a difficult thing to implement.
They did it once and few of my friends stopped playing. They grind so much to increase theirs gear score and then everyone could do the same after 5 runs. Leveling up the expertise and gear score is ok for now, don’t need to be easier. It’s an mmorpg, there has to be a things which are hard to get othwerwise we will lose the value of items.
They just need to provide new/returning players way to catch up to expertise 600. Currently there is no reliable way for these players to gain considerable expertise boost during daily 2-3h play session.
At current system daily gypsum and occasional chest run that are available to new/returning players is way to slow. Most solo players can’t run expeditions back to back being carried.
- return expertise bumps from named open world bosses at reasonable rate up to 565. There should be a way players could “farm” expertise even when chest runs are not taking place.
- Increase faction gear without downscale up to 590 GS. This would provide new/returning players an armor/weapon for mid game. With faction gear 590 new players would not get kicked from expeditions for having 550 junk gear. After players are 590+ expertise market gear and drops would still provide better value.
I have been trying to explain why expertise as implemented is a giant turd covered gate. A gate that says, “turn around now, and uninstall.”
This does no good because someone will just defend being able to run back to back expeditions all day for a week as the game being fine.
I have been saying this since the HWM changes, and I do not even need expertise bumps on my main. sigh

I will agree the Gearscore system is not fun. Most certainly not fun for new players by a long shot. Fresh level 60 will be like Finally! I made it. First OPR gets rolled instantly.
They could do a catch up mechanic. But i have hopes that when brimstone sands exp content comes. They shift away from Gearscore / Expertise and just make it lateral.
Trying to do a Genesis run to level up gear score. Been over and hour cant find a tank cant even do the most basic dungeon
took over two hours to get a tank and get through the Genesis. Got a few expertise points. died multiple times. Should only take like 100 more times.
How much time does AGS think they have …
The next Gen group I got got into a fight on the first hard boss because they are convinced the fight is different since it was patched yesterday and then the children left and ruined the whole thing. What a great game.
