Ever since the game launched and obviously through all the Alpha & Beta tests, inventory management, especially when it comes to organizing sets of gear has been an absolute headache. So I’m glad they’re finally adressing it by releasing a system that will help us to switch between sets in a much more convenient way. And the core functionality seems to be really well done.
However there are a couple aspects that I think are extremely disappointing about the system.
- Mastery Trees, Attribute Points and Skins are not part of the System
Considering we had to wait over an entire year to finally get access to this really basic Quality of Life feature, I think it’s pretty ridiculous that AGS has not managed to include both Mastery Trees and Attribute Points, which is a major letdown. This leaves a big inconvenience in a system that is mainly designed to create convenience.
I really hope this is already in the works and planned for the very near future. I’d personally also like to see skins being saved for each gearset aswell, so we can personalize the look of each gearset. Or at least create fully cosmetic gearsets.
- Monetizing Core QoL features is Greedy and the Number of Free Sets is ridiculously Low
Let me be totally clear here, I have no issues whatsoever with AGS ramping up their monetization, I have no issues with the Season Pass at all and I buy skins on a very regular basis. But I’m definitely not okay with AGS monetizing a basic Quality of Life feature.
AGS specifically designed this game in a way that requires players to carry around a multitude of sets to be able to do all available activities. And they’re fully aware that players easily have upwards of 15 sets for PvE, Crafting, Gathering and PvP, yet they decided to only provide 2 free slots for sets (3 with the free season pass). This quickly creates a scenario where players feel instantly pressured to spend money on a system just to not have to deal with the inconvenience that the developers created.
I personally think this is extremely greedy and I strongly suggest to rethink their approach to monetizing core aspects of gameplay and instead focus on truly OPTIONAL microtransactions. We waited ages for this feature to finally make our life in the game just a bit easier and I can’t help it but feel absolutely disappointed that the developers are trying to take advantage of that situation in the most scummy way possible.
I know that this is just the first iteration of the PTR, so I’m looking forward to seeing some changes to the system over the next 4 weeks that are hopefully alleviating some of the concerns that a big portion of the community are sharing.
Edit: I found this thread by @PrisonerZero and I think the idea of splitting the Gearsets into different categories is excellent.
