Everyone’s pretty much talked this one to death, but I’ve been toying with VG myself as a healer (55) and have gotten the WS up to 16 as of last night. Currently running 100 INT, 150 FOC, 100 CON. I tried an opal first (+15% dmg when < 100% stamina) but it’s a pain to force yourself to constantly dodge when you don’t really need to. Then slotted amber, which does indeed only split damage 50/50 (no Focus scaling happening at brilliant/pristine levels). However, if you read up on damage resists across the board, you’ll see that nature is quite good vs. most mobs as I think only one has some resistance to it. It feels like more of my damage is getting through when I solo post-amber, but could just be anecdotal. Even without the Focus scaling, seems like the nature damage helps with penetration. Obviously would rather they fix it though. Re. Diamond, I like the healing bonus for sure but I’m rarely at full health when soloing out in the world. Maybe my first hit or two but that’s it. And again, it feels to me that the nature damage just penetrates better… But maybe I just like seeing all the damage numbers floating when I attack, lol.
This is my understanding. The damage SPLIT Is working. But the Nature damage SCALE increase with higher Focus does not. And as I also understand the higher the gem above Flawed the less overall damage is done when both damage types are totalled together.
Also, yeah. Even with Flawed I feels like the small hits of Nature really help especially when fighting against the Lost who are highly resistant to Void but weak against Nature. And since I have been farming alot of them recently, I recommend Amber.
But if you are looking for an alternative, I like Emerald. The extra damage on targets below 30% is nice on beefier badguys.
To test this, ppl need to hit some target that has 0 defense against Void and Nature damage.
Maybe the dummies in the War camp can help.
Personally I felt like I had a little damage bump by adding the Amber gem. Maybe the increase was 5%, maybe 10%. But not something huge.
Problem is that in my case I didn’t have 2 exact void gaunlets, one without gem and one with the gem. I had two very similar, but one had FOC the other one had INT+DEX+AmberGem
However not sure if this is better than a diamond gem, and stuff like that.
@SebastianD Tested this against striped boars in Mourningdale the other night, verified. Boars (beasts) don’t have resists/weaknesses vs. void or nature from what I can tell. I tested before the amber and after adding it. Was exactly the same damage as before, but halved x2

Maybe in my test it was getting better because of switching some little FOC to INT
I just did a test as well. Same damage like you. But just for people who wanted to know, this were my results. After killing like 25-40 boars
No gem: Max crit 931
T5 Amber: Max crit 930 (465+465)
No. Do not use an amber gem. The item already scales off of FOCUS.
If I remember correctly the scale is 65% w/ FOCUS which is higher than any gem already.
Oh, now that’s an interesting twist!
This is what my testing revealed as of this morning… T2 amber is the highest you want to go. However, someone else further down implies that this is because the VG already scales on Focus? Curious if that’s true and/or has anything to do with the amber gem issue.
May have missed it but what is consensus on best gem if we are full INT?
i went pure focus and put amber in void gauntlet, its ggwp all day
t2 amber is bugged and exploitive
I think the actual issue is that scaling for amber gems on focus is broken across the board, if you look at my test results. Should be getting more than 0.4, which is what T2 is giving you. I’ve read that it’s supposed to be 0.6 for all amber gems, but not positive on that. So, while you get the best bonus from T2 amber on Focus… it’s hardly exploitative. It’s technically broken and underpowered.

I plan on doing so once I have more time and my VG skills leveled more. Been hard for me to login past week due to RL stuff.
I slotted in the fire int gem while leveling the VG and it seems fine with 310 INT ( almost easy mode in pve, but no baseline tests yet with other gems.)
I’ll report back once I can get my hands on a few different VGs. They are fairly pricey on my low pop server still.

So what’s the final say on gemming a void gauntlet?
I don’t know that there is any consensus, the opinions seem to be all over the map. I’m hesitant to use any of my Cut Pristine Ambers until I hear that they’re actually scaling properly.
