No. Do not use an amber gem. The item already scales off of FOCUS.
If I remember correctly the scale is 65% w/ FOCUS which is higher than any gem already.

Oh, now that’s an interesting twist!
This is what my testing revealed as of this morning… T2 amber is the highest you want to go. However, someone else further down implies that this is because the VG already scales on Focus? Curious if that’s true and/or has anything to do with the amber gem issue.

May have missed it but what is consensus on best gem if we are full INT?
i went pure focus and put amber in void gauntlet, its ggwp all day
t2 amber is bugged and exploitive
I think the actual issue is that scaling for amber gems on focus is broken across the board, if you look at my test results. Should be getting more than 0.4, which is what T2 is giving you. I’ve read that it’s supposed to be 0.6 for all amber gems, but not positive on that. So, while you get the best bonus from T2 amber on Focus… it’s hardly exploitative. It’s technically broken and underpowered.

I plan on doing so once I have more time and my VG skills leveled more. Been hard for me to login past week due to RL stuff.
I slotted in the fire int gem while leveling the VG and it seems fine with 310 INT ( almost easy mode in pve, but no baseline tests yet with other gems.)
I’ll report back once I can get my hands on a few different VGs. They are fairly pricey on my low pop server still.

I don’t know that there is any consensus, the opinions seem to be all over the map. I’m hesitant to use any of my Cut Pristine Ambers until I hear that they’re actually scaling properly.
amber gems are broken, have been since the last beta (yes, the whole life of the game live, it’s not just amber gems though, most gems are broken in one way or another… somehow in the 2nd week of this title the taunt gems got broken too, no one noticed because agro is so shitty, and most tanks run taunt attacks anyway, but the taunt gems do nothing right now too). the only amber gem that works is the t2 version which grants 20%.

If it has been broken for so long then AGS is unlikely to fix it, for some reason. Maybe because they want healers to not do any dmg?
you guessed right. AGS didn’t like people running around with hatchet/lifestaff, running amber gems and doing more damage then pure str builds, so in an attempt to “fix” it, they broke every single gem over t2 (20%). I think this was an intentional last minute nerf, considering it was reported like on day 2 of the last open beta, and hasn’t been fixed yet.

I tested all the gems on the ptr… all INT gems and the amber gem split the damage evenly. The benefit only comes from overcoming damage resistances. Diamond only works on the first hit, plus you can use up the first hit with a tick of oblivion. I would not use it for Annihilation. I would ONLY use diamond and nothing else for the Decay tree.
For the left tree, through testing and play I found Emerald the best to use. By the time you get 3 stacks on the target and get your damage going, the target will already be at half health. The emerald will increase damage by 20% on targets under 30% health. The bottom 1/3 of the health bar just melts for most targets.
How is that possible? Even if Pristine Amber did work well then only 50% of the damage would scale with Focus, compared to 100% of the damage for real Str builds.
If this is really a nerf then they should update the description for Amber so people dont get deceived.
