So I saw this post on reddit, iirc, where a guy measured damage with different gems and concluded that flawed gems work the best and top-tier gems only make it worse. Well, I decided to test it myself and here are my results on 2 runs. Gems used in both runs are 3xRuby (Flawed, regular, and Brilliant).
- Life staff. INT: 147, FOC: 25
Flawed: 129.93% dmg compared to non-gem item (I will write X% from now on). 39% of total damage was magic.
Regular: 128.8%, 46% magic.
Brilliant: 128.4%, 53.3% magic.
- Rapier. DEX: 148, INT: 158
Flawed: 103.15%, 22.45% magic.
Regular: 98.96%, 29.28% magic.
Brilliant: 98.63%, 39.18% magic.
A flawed gem actually is the best for extra damage. Obviously, if you have INT > than weapon’s primary stat. It’d better be Arcane damage since no enemies (except PvP) has resistance to it but you’ll get +30% damage to Corrupted from Arcane. Scale from INT gems totally makes sense if you have something like 3:1 main skills and not so much for closer distribution, you’ll better get Onyx or whatever you find useful.
I also compared 100% all-in 1 stat build with 50/50 two-stat build. Turns out, all-in has better crit damage but worse regular damage than 50/50. So, something around 3:1 should be a sweet spot.
