Genesis Expedition/Mutation Guide

Hey all! So I have been working with @Nadar on some expedition/mutation guide videos. We love PVE content but we have always felt that expedition guides or videos never really explained things well. It often felt like most of the time people just learned as they went, and if you never really ran with a good team you never really learned it. So we wanted to try and make videos that explained the run better. We wanted to focus on explaining what we are doing, why we are doing it, and explain the underlying mechanics.

I want to give Nadar a majority, if not all, of the credit here because he really did a fantastic deep dive on the mechanics. I mean he even describes how many seconds some effects will last, etc.

We started with Genesis just to get our feet wet, which we know many people already know. We are excited about the new expedition and plan on making a video when it’s released.

We wanted to get some feedback on the video. Our goal is to help newer expedition runners or people new to running mutations. This is not particularly for PVE veterans or speed runners as much, but who knows it might be helpful! We both are enjoying learning some of the video editing and all that and I am sure that we can improve those skills, but our main focus is on the content and helping others through PVE expeditions/mutations. So appreciate any feedback on presenting the information most effectively. We really want to utilize more picture in picture effects and thing like that.

I also recorded the same run and have the healer perspective here as more of a supplemental video. You really want to see Nadar’s first though because he includes a really detailed video with all of the mechanics.

Finally, on a side note, he is also working on more of a written guide that is more for general tanking and not specific to an expedition or mutation. Unfortunately written guides are so rare these days. All credit goes to him there though. Maybe I can work on a healing written guide if there is interest.

Thanks all!

Also! We totally aware of the misspelling of Genesis haha (oops) he going to fix that tomorrow.

Also for my video I am absolutely aware that the footage when I’m not talking is silent. Unfortunately I did not record it in a way that removed the discord communication, which Nadar did, so the sound effects were lost as a result. I could have put in some background music I suppose haha, but yeah that will be fixed for the next video.

I wish they designed all expeditions that skill was rather required over knowledge of exploits/mechanics.

Your guide however is awesome, I’ve been looking for something like that.

Yeah, we are both really hoping for them to crank up bosses a bit in mutations. They actually mentioned il they working on it (cue me needing to go work on my other thread), saying they want to make it so the boss mechanics change and become harder at higher levels.

But yeah, it was a fun little project and we really want to work on it more. We want to focus heavily just on helping people run expeditions and mutations if they are struggling. Trying to make some good content independent of the need to have everything monetized or any of those pressures.

I always wondered what those mushrooms did.

You guys can do for the normal ones as well. When we are bored we run 5 dps like 3 of us are really well geared and invite 2 more dps that need bumps. People can buy cheap ward gear and run sub 10 min gen as low gs as well if they see how easy it is to gear up. Mobs on normal just melt. Standard comp with healer and tank it’s for mutation. That way everyone can speed up their gear score way faster than wasting time with a healer and tank

Oh yeah, definitely can really break down the traditional tank/healer/DPS build when you overgeared or even for people speed running M10s!

This is mainly for newer players learning the expeditions, either geared just right or under geared and without carries on the team.

Kinda like if you think back to your first few Laz/Gen runs, if you were around pretty early on at least. Many teams wiped over and over on Cilla/Caretaker and many gave up hours into or I remember hearing of people running out of repair parts haha.

We thought that a mutation run was a good way to condense it so we don’t have too many videos and can explain the non-mutation mechanics as we go and don’t have too many videos and use the chapter feature to let people skip.

I had thought of separate videos for the common bosses that ruin runs (Neshtaun, Caretaker, Cilla, etc). I did one of caretaker before this video as a test. Also when you can focus on single bosses you can make the video shorter which I appreciate.

Thanks for feedback, yeah so many ways to run these things.

Haha yeah think that it is not particularly intuitive and often just gets killed right away.

Absolutely, feel free to check out his video to get a feel for it. Again want to say that this is focused on regular expeditions and basic mutations runs. Very much not speed running, other than pointing out what mobs can be skipped, how to cut basic time and all that on mutations haha. Very much not a 10 minute M10 haha.

On my video, definitely misspoke once or twice but don’t think it messed with the overall video. Nadar is more scripted and I’m more off the cuff.

Our goal is purely on getting information out and being as accurate as possible, because we feel the move these days is away from guides and towards more monetized content. Nothing wrong with that, but we hoping to get some guides out there. See what happens.

We also know that there is a TON of preference and variation in all of this. Nadar really focused mostly on facts and information. I think his written tanking guide will also gonna be geared towards that. He will try and point out when something is opinion. In the end I’m also sure we are bound to make mistakes as well but trying our best to get something out there that is helpful.

We really excited about the new expedition and I’m sure whatever we release, the tactics will quickly change as they always do and things become more efficient. The goal is mostly on the true underlying mechanics and not good to cheese or glitch the boss. Although sometimes it’s hard to know where that line is (Neshtaun and holding mobs in safe spaces as an example).

100% agree…I plan for it to be a living document that is kept up-to-date with each major patch as well as with anything new I find out or that others point out. If I get something wrong, I want someone to point it out…it’ll make me a better tank. I’m the first to admit that I do not know everything on the subject and view it as a continuous learning experience.
