Get rid of pve grinds for pvp

It sounds a lot like you’re trying to have AGS turn New World into WoW…

The game is very new. Just give it time to evolve and get itself worked out.

PVP doesn’t have to be competitive.

When a group of 5 detroy a single player, is it fair ? Absolutly not. Is it PvP ? absolutly.

PvP doesn’t have to be fair. If you want fair PvP, you have to balance faaaar more than just gear.

I am the first one to say patience, but I see a direction that I really don’t like. Never played WoW, but in its current state, I rather return to GW2 to pvp, where I can find constant action, fun and engaging map pvp, and I never have felt pressured to grind for BiS gear, but instead my pvp rewards me with currency and mats. Don’t get me wrong, I am a pvx player, I enjoy pve content, but I don’t like having it forced on me to pvp.

Obviously it will never be 100% fair, but I do not feel a pve gear progression should be part of pvp play. Even a game like GW2 allows to be competitive and have fun in pvp, through simply partaking in pvp, and progressing that way. That’s a mainly pve focussed title.

but wow has gear that matters much more than it does in this game lol.
far better pvp too

i dont see how your reply is relevant to the topic.
sounds like you hate wow because you were hard stuck at 900cr in 3v3

2100 in 3s, 1800 in 2s, 1900 RBGs, duelist capped DK… i know gear matters. I love WoW been playing it for 2 decades almost.

all i’m saying is the game is fresh, AGS still has plenty of time to mold this into a great game. Give it time. Things will change. Hopefully for the better.

Clearly, but this is why this is the feedback section, and I am simply voicing a concern and suggestion. I have no idea how many players see it the way I do, there might be a majority of players who want and believe in a pve grind for pvp. It is up to be debated, but without it being voiced, it might not even be something the company feels an issue, while maybe it is for the majority.

It’s my thoughts on the matter, nothing more, and suggesting possibly different approaches how to keep crafting relevant <3

Skill was thrown away with stagger. I think the recent mage and bow nerfs should have further informed you they do not want skill in this game. Just Greataxe LMBs

Stopped reading here because you don’t even know what kind of game NW is. That’s so pathetic I can’t even make fun of this bs.

That is such a constructive comment, and you are so enlightened, certainly…

New World is an ambitious game, which has placed pvp at the core of its mechanics. You can purely pve, but you will not escape the impact pvp has on your gameplay, ie taxes on crafting, storage through house tax, costs of travel. All this is affected by pvp activity through the settlements mechanic. There are no pve titles which work in such a manner, so while one can call New World a pvx game, it nonetheless is pvx with a very pvp heavy core, thus how pvp works in combat and how it gets encouraged and supported in this game, matters greatly.

All pvp sees issues with balancing ranged and mele combat, and I just hope they will continue to work on getting the balance as right as possible, a must for a game where pvp matters as much as it does in New World :+1:

I really think you overestimate the impact of pvp. On our server for example pvp is completely dead but people play 2-3 invasions a day, doing dungeon runs even dungeon rotations and farm, craft and trade all day. On the other hand there are always only the same 2 people in queue for OPR. So please stop making pvp bigger than it is. On a lot of servers pvp isn’t a thing at all anymore!

And that is the issue, that it isn’t the thing it is meant to be in the game. Maps are not meant to turn stagnant, and the low server pop issue is an ill, not something that was planned to happen like this.

This article is from February 2020. By then it was clear they’d not go for full flagged, but they decided to keep pvp at the core or they would have turned it around back then and this article would not exist.

The course as in this being pvp heavy, was never changed, just that right now these vital core mechanics of the game lie broken due to varying reasons, low pop servers being one, but the watermark could be another, as it forces a tedious pve grind on to the part of the community, which is meant to make those core mechanics work.

I would go for a different approach here. Regardless of your chosen path everyone is entitle to have fun the way they find more pleasurable as long don’t interfere on other’s fun. So upon reaching lvl 60, game could branch into separated pve and pvp roles, for pve won’t be much of a change, but for pvp (notice that this is just an example), for killing players would drop items to increase their watermark or even more specialized pvp gear.

Yes, any pvp activity to be used to increase watermark, I agree with that, however, the issue for me remains that BiS gear is not really something that should be part of pvp, unless yes, make it part of pvp progression, but make it very very hard to obtain either way, so it does not become something that impacts pvp, or makes players feel it impacts, because it can just be the perception of it mattering, which turns players off who want to pvp, but feel they can’t be competitive without the best gear.

This game is not seeing the map pvp activities it is meant to see and offer. Low pop servers are of course a massive issue in this, and I must admit I can not tell how well it is playing out on the very high pop servers, but on my server, most who came to pvp have left, voices I heard were complaining about having to grind pve.

well, if you look at some of the data crunchers on youtube, the faction armor at 520GS is only a little worse than full void bent. check it out here (time stamp link) Faction vs Voidbent so it is still pretty competitive even at 520GS

This might totally be, and I hope they at least will try keep it this way, however, it is not always about the actual numbers, but the perception of players. When wars will come down to whether you have BiS or not, when players think they need that gear to really be competitive, then the problems I mention begin to have weight, because they end discouraging players from partaking in the vital core pvp mechanics.

It is a suggestion/something I feel needs to be at least considered, and in the very least be communicated so that players do not feel they have to do that pve grind to feel they can do well in pvp.

And btw, I run faction gear as I have decided to boycott the watermark grind. I love pve. I am 800+ hours into the game, and most of it spent on pve exploring, gathering, some crafting, done wars, done invasions, but I am getting the first ‘you really should start on your watermark grind’, as it is perceived to matter. I know players who have meantime quit over the perception that they need to do that grind to be competitive in pvp activities. This is not beneficial to the core mechanics of the game, and obviously the game overall.

Faction gear is all you need for
PvP. They made it that way for people who just want PvP. Noob.

I think you are missing the point. You have BiS gear, and of course also with the ability to have perks you want for your build, compared to faction gear with just a fixed perk, but the perceived BiS gear is locked behind a tedious pve grind.

I know for a fact this has put players off, we even discussed in our discord, and it was said faction gear will work. I can not be certain how much this contributes to lack of map pvp, maybe truly once merges happen, it will prove to be of no relevance, but it will regardless be something to keep a very very close eye on for the future, also as quite frankly if it has no benefits, then it should be questioned why resources should be dedicated to content built around obtaining such gear, while there is no pve content for which it is relevant.
