It’s rapidly diminishing consumer faith in the project and has squashed my will to play any more of this game.
It’s like, what’s the point, I’m just gonna get banned anyways.
Just in my circle of gamers, 3 people have got bans, all for silly reasons.
Copious amounts of people have been complaining on the Steam Forums as well, I’ve probably seen a thousand of these threads since the open beta. It’s literally a meme at this point.
Some of the bans, seem so trivial, that I almost don’t believe them. But then Windward (a community mod on steam), comes on and basically confirms them.
Like why are people being banned for saying curse words, or naming their character Beff Jezos?
It’s so ridiculous.
Who wants to play an MMO, where you get banned for something so minuscule such as saying a swear word, or having a silly name, or throwing out some trash talk.
It’s gonna happen, why would I want to play a game like this? Invest my time in a world that is this heavily censored.
Could you ask your friends what exactly they said to get bans?

Also, I think it’s important to take a hard stance on moderation early on to set the tone; if you let people get away with bigotry or harassment early on, it becomes that much harder to get under control. I’m sure most companies would rather be known for strict moderation than for being the place where bigots & bullies run free.
I agree. Bans should be handed out for only the most heinous of actions. The filters and mute features are more than enough to provide a safe environment for those that wish to be protected.
Yeah, I prefer to have strict moderation than to deal with a toxic community. Think about how long is League of Legends fighting against this because they didn’t manage to fix it at the beginning.
I got banned for “Abusive Behavior” 24h, after appealing the ban and discussing with Amazon Games support i have encountered exactly 6 clueless people that had no idea how to deal with this. They could not provide any reasonable description of what “Abusive Behavior” means or what i have been banned for because they had no idea what they are doing … fast forward i have requested my Personal Files as i am a member of EU and guess what they have no proof of any abusive behavior they banned me for … you are automatically banned if salty players in pvp report you in mass a subject that has been discussed already multiple times .
I can backup all my statements i wrote because i have saved the Chat with Amazon support.
Worthless support, No idea what GDPR is, No clue about the game, no clue what people are requesting ( one of the agents asked me what’s my order ID rofl ) just pure garbage and automated bans by salty people.
Amazon if i were you i would train my first line responders better instead of just employing them and waste your clients time and money.
I’ve seen so many versions of Jeff Bezos it’s irksome. We’re supposed to be from a fictional earth, but one that, to a point, is this earth. Keep the names realistic to that.
Literally every other name in the game is a disguised profanity, racial or sexual slur or a sentence of commentary about the game or amazon mangled together into a string that isn’t funny or even interesting. I even saw a player who had named himself after a mass murderer. That last one… they not only need a permanent ban, they need the police and social services calling on them!
And as for the profanity filters… we all know they don’t work. They catch words they should not and they don’t catch the various deliberately mis-spelled versions of profanities they should. So whilst they are of debatabe benefit to those who prefer a clean stream they are not an excuse to use that profanity in public channels if, as it is, it is against the ToS.
This guy really saying he wants less freedom and less censorship there’s no way. Have we all really devolved into a society where people are so fragile and sensitive that they want MORE moderation? Yikes bro. It’s honestly sad that people like this exist and are actively trying to support an almost militant/authoritarian additions to the game.
You do not have GDPR rights with Amazon’s US operations. You submitted your information to play the game directly to them. It was not exported by an EU/UK entity. You do have such rights with amazon.co.uk but that would not cover your use of, reporting in, or any other data relating to the game (which is run from the US) other than the transaction under which you purchased it.
I disagree on most of these things but it is kind of scary that you can get in trouble by being mass reported by people. Someone on my server called to mass report someone and the next day when thereported person got on they said that they got an official warning from amazon.
I really hope there is human intervention in this system at some point so they can’t actually get banned for doing nothing.
There are always extremely toxic players in every MMO community. And if there is one thing that can be learned from Blizzard’s WoW then it is that it is super important to kick those toxic players out of the game at the earliest occasion, or the whole community will suffer and it will cost millions of subscribers.
I am not sure if curse words are a good way to filter those people, but generally speaking a strong moderation at least in the beginning is absolutely necessary to form a good community, until the majority of super-toxic people are banned.
I side with the unpopular opinion here, as some sort of general order has to be restored in any online game or NO one will play it…not even the people that are left because they “got away with it”. Whatever the “it” might be.
Whilst I understand we need to have some sort of moderation, the devs should allow the players to express themselves, and if that’s by making silly jokes then that should be allowed.
I have a zero-tolerance for racist terms (Actual racism, not the 2021 woke version), but players should also be allowed to shit talk, the amount of content which is based around PVP should justify PVP andys to kick off at each other it adds personality to the servers and its funny to watch.
I agree! Also, Amazon is in the business of making money and not loosing it. If word were to get out that New World has a toxic game (in game community)…do you really think someone is going to fork over $40 for a toxic game play experience.
I completely agree with you! I’m glad all these terrible names and people are being banned, I hope they’re doing even more, some of these names are ridiculous. Not even names of the famous people which should be banned unless they’re actually that person, but names that are completely inappropriate. Those should all be removed and those players banned completely, forever. This game is a TEEN rating … that doesn’t mean immature / childish people ruin the game for everyone, it means younger people can play the game.
