Yesterday I upgraded from a MSI GTX 970 4GB to a MSI GTX 1080 Ti X 11GB. This was the only component I changed. Previousley I had no issues with New World and the GTX 970 in regards to stability within the game. After I installed the 1080 Ti, I did not encounter any issues in regards to startup, launching programs or games. I did install the latest drivers from Nvidia.
Specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel i5-9400f
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200Mhz
GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Ti
MOtherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-e Gaming
PSU: Raidmax RX-530 80 Plus Bronze power supply
After about 10min of play (no issues or fps drops thusfar) both my screens would instantly go black and my main monitor which had new world on it would say “display port not connected” I could still hear the game sound. although the sound was repeating itself as if the game had crashed and I could still talk to my friends in discord. The only way to remedy this would be to manual restart my pc. Relaunch New World and the same issue would happen roughly 10-20 minutes of playtime. Today I tried to remedy the black screens through some google research. I have flashed my bios to the latest bios, updated whichever drivers I could update and uninstalled, and reinstalled the GPU drivers, verified game files and lowered my graphics settings but alas, it still continued.
As far as I am aware, this does not happen in any other games I have.
After flashing my bios, I attempted to log into New World again, and now within 3 seconds of logging into the world I get black screens and have to manual restart my pc. Any help would be greatly appreciated and Id be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Might be stupid statement but, Have you tried other games? Maybe got a bad card? Also my brother and I had different issues with running new world with our GPU’s. I have a 2080 Super and he has a 770. We both had to use MSI afterburner and underclock our GPUs. Also in game settings turn on the max FPS 60 cap. For some reason it fixed my issues but he still had a weird issue were the game would shut his computer down completely. After a factory reset and installed the game again it has been working for him. Not sure if any of this would help but thats what we had to do.
Yes, I mentioned in the post that it does not seem to affect any of my other games, including COD: Warzone, Rainbow SIx SIege, Valorant, CS:GO etc. I have considered underclocking the card a bit but have not yet tried that. will try the max 60fps cap as well. Thanks
It was known that it was frying cards like the 3080 when it was released. I had 1 black screen and underclocked just a little from 100% to 95% I think still plenty for my settings but did not get a black screen after that. I think even Jayz2cents did a video on it if I remember right. I hope you get it all figured out!
I have an MSI though, still had an issue. the 3080 or whatever that Jay covered was manufacture side yes. But that still doesnt cover me or my brother.
Please accept my sincerest apologies in regards to your experience with New World. If the issue has not yet been resolved I would like to request you to try and run the game in windowed mode to see if that helps.
Please follow the steps below to launch your game in windowed mode as you were not able to view the new world menu for long enough to change the settings through there:
Right click on the New World icon on your desktop.
Select Properties.
Go to the Shortcut tab. (If the shortcut tab is not available please go to your steam installation directory for new world and create a shortcut from the game’s executable file.)
At the end of the Target line add: -window
Apply and close.
Please also try using one monitor and check if the game is running with display as normal or if the issue is still persisting.
Thankyou. I reset my pc and reinstalled windows and downgraded from windows 11 to windows 10 just incase their were conflicting drivers or something. I will attemt your solution if the issue continues and update this comment. Thankyou
After resetting and reinstalling windows. Downgrading from windows 11 to windows 10. Sofar I have had no black screen issues or any other stability issues. My gpu is actually performing better than what it was before the reset.
UPDATE: After playing a bit more this afternoon, black screen happened again and therefore reinstalling windows did not fix my issue. will attempt the solutions now
i have the same problem it happens to me once or twice a day
my specs are
CPU: intel i5-9400f
RAM: G-skill 16 gb
GPU: MSI GTX 1660 TI
sometimes when i alt-tab i could hear the sounds lagging then either the screen freezes and i have to manually turn off the pc or display port not connected
Thanks for keeping us updated. Do let us know here if running in windowed mode helped in resolving this issue. Looking forward to hearing from you again .
I did a bit of research and saw that the GTX 1080 ti requires 600W power supply (Info provided by nvidia). I currently only had a 530W power supply. I went out and purchased a 650W power supply. Will see if this fixes the issue or not. I assume it will because it did feel like a GPU power issue and the GPU was working perfectly on another power supply before I took over it.
Will update if the issue persits.
Welcome to the show. Ive been unable to play for over 3 weeks now, since before Christmas, because of this same error. There are actually hundreds of people experiencing the same thing and it isnt being resolved. AGS has no solutions for us and isnt addressing it, so you arent hearing about it until it happens to you.
Its insanity. Multiple tickets open and silence. Like literal crickets from support. And they wonder why people are flaming the game and quitting? Im on a gtx 970, game was working fine until december update. My computer runs all other games perfect and I even edit high end resource intensive projects in Adobe Premiere Pro, with zero problems.
All Im sayin is keep pulling your hair out, but dont get your hopes to high. Im a fan of NW but not a fan of the deception and plain disregard for the plethora of players with the same crash issues.
They need to finally step to the plate and admit they dont know the answer instead of blowing us off with mindless troubleshooting that has proven to not work for anyone.
Sorry to hear your frustration. Before upgrading to the 1080 ti, as I mentioned above I had a GTX 970 just like yourself. (Rest of specs are in the first post). I never had any issues with the game (including december patch) on the 970 other than very bad fps in some areas of the game but that is understandable.
The reason I was getting black screens once upgrading to the 1080 ti was because my power supply couldnt supply enough power to the gpu and the rest of my system. 1080 ti has a is recommended by nvidia themselves to have atleast a 600w power supply and when I was getting black screens I only had a 530W power supply. After trying everything I could software related and hardware related without buying anything, I bought a 650W PSU, installed it and havent had a black screen since or any other stability issues.
I see a GTX 970 has a recommended PSU wattage of 400 +. It may be different for your situation, but in my situation and most of what Ive read online with other people getting black screens it is not AGS’s fault, it is usually their own hardware or some software glitch/driver errors. Hope this helps.
It’s really great to know that you have been able to pinpoint the cause of your black screen issue, and that it has been resolved. Please let us know if there’s anything else that you need assistance with. Till then, happy adventuring in Aeternum
So you are excited Cloud was able to pinpoint, but no response to my wall of text? No assistance? No help? Been almost a month now. This is Ludacris!!!
