Small companies currently serve almost no purpose at all, other than a group chat and treasury. I’d love to have things like:
Company Storage
Company hall/headquarters
Company missions - like town missions
Company housing
What’s the point of a treasury if we don’t collectively have a way to generate any income? Could we collect a small amount from our members when they craft at our (not yet existing) headquarters? The game makes you feel like companies are hugely important, but then only really gives a benefit to the top 10-15 at a time.
I have a large group of people I play with, and we know we can’t hold any major territory…but this is still maybe 20+ people who want to coordinate and do interesting things together. Literally trying to build a better company.
Right now the only way to have a successful company is it hit max members and go to war, so you can collect those sweet sweet taxes. Other than that…why even be in a company today?
I agree with this. I joined a big company initially so that we could purchase some land and then I switched to a small company with my friends. It’s fun because we can talk and see who is online, but otherwise, it’s totally useless.
We’d really like to have a company bank so that we can give gear to each other or donate crafting mats to our major crafters. Right now both people have to be online and that’s a total pain.
I think the idea of owning a “company house” is perfect. We could put a chest in there to store some stuff and maybe trophies or whatever.
Like most of New World, the whole company thing feels like it’s only half thought out. Hopefully, AGS will figure out server population issues, fix the hundreds of bugs, and eventually get around to working on features like this.

I think it might also be cool to have a way for small companies to align themselves with larger companies. I’m not sure how this would work mechanically and it might break some balancing issues. Maybe something like X% the small companies donations go directly to the larger company or maybe smaller companies can get some bonus from aligning with a larger company. I’m curious to see if anyone has any ideas on how that might work.
Absolutely! While your points are great, I think there is a lot of room to enhance company/faction based PvP. Right now, only a small amount of players ever gets to attend in a war or the chance to actually own something. A possible idea: Main Company gets the town, small companies can claim small villages or even just a farm or timberhuts in the woods.
A company holding a farm can spend time and upgrades to make sure citizen can always come by and grab some food. They can grow plants and offer them to allied players for a reduced price and at higher prices to player of other factions. A small batch can be free.
A company holding a hut in the woods can offer bonuses to logging in its close proximity and some wood resources.
A company could hold a watchtower which allows them to oversee the close proximity and shout alerts that the whole region can see as notifications. They could install 1 simple defense weapon (like on the fort) to defend against enemy faction PvP players.
A company could hold an Inn which allows them to offer sleeping spaces. For a fee you can pay for a bed and fast travel there once. Then you’d have to pay again f.e.
And so on.
Smaller units with niche purposes can give smaller companies something to do. Saving money to upgrade your farm, your mill or your watchtower gives great incentives to build up your own smaller company and engage in such activites.
Company Hall and Company Housing would fit in this very well. I really hope they don’t forget about small companies.
Man id love this neverwinters company/guild system would do well for this game, collecting materials to upgrade the company benches etc with up costs as well (this could also mean increasing company member limits from 100 to like 250.
I made a company that is pretty much just meant for me and my friends. And they’re free to add “friends of friends”. But I/We had no intention of running a “real” company that is at the forefont of the big map goals. Putting in effort to manage what equates to a “big guild” and whatnot, which in turn essentially means controlling your whole faction. And at any rate without big recruitment goals like the main companies have we won’t have the manpower to get things done without being overshadowed by said main companies.
But We, or at least I, but definitely we, would definitely love something tangible to do as a company, because right now by deciding not to try to run the whole faction our company is effectively fake. Its as though we don’t exist as a group, and may as well still be non-company individuals. The only benefit is less spam invites received.
A shared storage that lets us split into different trade skills or drop off gear “best suited for George’s build” without needing to always manually trade person to person, a “house” that belongs to the company instead of just one player, there’s a number of things that would be great to be able to do.
Also, how about being able to sign up for wars as a group?
I mean its not like I expect the company running a war to pick any of us over their own numbers, but given the idea that they did it’d be cool if we could apply as a set group of 5, which the managing company then just drags into one of the 10 war groups instead of placing us as individuals. Or maybe the company as a whole applies to fill one of the war groups, and sets the 5 individuals ourselves. In either form it gives a small company a way to partake in war as a company instead of only as indivduals.
Yes please. Also something like scrims/bgs like in wow would be a nice way to practice large scale but instanced fights (war practice). This could also be some kind of company mission
Yep, one of the main parts AGS should be pinning on their board for things to improve would be that. Game runs around control of territory and management, and that is limited to top members of the largest few companies, the rest is gated from that content. People will soon see that companies already have enough people that they want to bring to the wars and randoms will have 0 chances of attending to battles they sign up aswell.
Really, it’s not wrong that it’s centered around streamers and big communities dishing against each other but the rest (actually the larger group) being completely left out don’t make much sense. Im sure they’ll apply improvements but I wouldn’t expect it soon. They’ll probably first solve and smooth the server issues, then dig into the major bugs which will probably take a few months seeing by how they work.
Company house and holding idea is pretty good and fits into the game perfectly because it’s already all about land/settlement management. I suggested that, since we are somewhat in about 17th century, companies could have static, instanced company SHIPS moored about the island (since by lore we can’t really leave without getting smashed by krakens) that they can also improve like sloop>corvette>galleon etc. or improve things on it like you do with the town buildings. Something for the company to work on and pool resources. Could see a lot of improvements too, outa top of my head; moore it on a map region of company leaders choice to allow access to fast travel for company members to a beach by rowboat on that map, choose lifestyle improvement board upgrade on the ship to give bonuses to company members on that region similar to town management concept, companies sign up as whole to back up other companies that are in war for a settlement irrelevant to the war signup list, ships providing some bonuses or abilities or stuff per ship involved etc.

Any company has a chance of holding a territory however the lottery system for who gets to declare war gets skewed towards companies that contributed more favor prior to the war declaration. It isn’t impossible but it’s definitely harder/more dependent on RNG.
Completely Agree here. Originally My group of about 10 was joining another large company but they decided to go to a high pop server with 3+ hour ques so we broke off on our own as we have all been gaming together for 10 years and some play in different time zones and didnt want to inconvenience each other and wait in ques for hours.
Now we would really like these features. A company storage for say a minimum company size of say 5 to 10 so it cant be abused just for extra storage and some sort of company housing would be a great addition to the game. I really think AGS could capitalize on this even with cash shop items for company items for housing. (not extra storage just cosmetic)
AGS do not miss the opportunity here this is one way to make your player base happy and sounds like a easy mechanic to add and keep your small companies and player groups in tact as us small companies and groups of friends create our own content and fun inside these games even when we run out of farmable end game content. If we have a social atmosphere to gather in on a game we enjoy we stay. If Clans and friends do not they typically move on.
Clans/Guilds/Companies are such an ingrained part of massively MULTIPLAYER games, it seems like a tremendous oversight not to have more features to support them.
I’d like to see some form of guild hall, with shared storage. Permissions to access can simply use the current company ranks. For me, that’s the biggest missing piece.
Even making the company storage area require a significant amount of gold would make sense to me. Saving up the money to buy it gives a goal for everyone in the group to contribute to, especially for us smaller groups who are never going to be after a town.
