I want to gain my shields bonuses if I have a sword on/sheathed, even if my Hammer is out, but the attributes would have to remain split in order to mitigate attribute distribution. otherwise you’ll see IG/VG using a shield for a 3rd item to gain attributes if you don’t need a sword.
it needs a careful adjustment or it’s going to create trouble if you’re not required to wear a sword to gain benefits from shield, even if you’re wanting to weapon swap.
So like you stated, if you have a sword, then boom… gtg? yeah no?
Yeah, shields need to give attributes if a sword is one of your two weapons, period. I’d like to just run my 300/200 build and go sword+hammer or sword+great axe in dungeons and just use the sword when a taunt is needed, but I can’t as effectively use my hammer or great axe in said scenarios because I’ll lose either my 300str or 200con, both being quite big losses if I’m attempting to pseudo tank an encounter, be it elites or a dungeon. It’s really stupid this hasn’t been patched up by now. You’d see a few more DPS players willing to have a sword as their 2nd weapon if they could still mostly play as their DPS weapon.
Dozens of issues were opened, it has been 4 months. They can’t manage to fix shit, man.
my thing is, why is shield only for the sword? why cant I use shield and… anything else. Shield and spear, shield hatchet… It should have been a separate thing… Its own weapon with its own skill tree. That way it could be a sub weapon that you can block with on your main weapon but when u want to use shield skills you switch to it like you would any other weapon.
yeah, I’m not 100% sure… I guess because shield is classified as a weapon, but doesn’t deal even half decent damage. it’s really good utility, but that’s about it.(aside from blocking)((blocking is great with shields))
but yeah I get it. anything 1 handed should be able to utilize a shield, but then it’s only half a skill tree’s worth of abilities, in which case would make most combinations with the shield too OP aside from the standard sword.
Could you imagine defiant stance mixed in with anything regarded as OP already? oooofff
Defiant stance is insane… if you use it while above 50% life you get a total 50% damage mitigation, all while utilizing the VG to root, weapon swap to IG- still have the shield out for 50% damage negation, and ice spike XD then once defiant stance wears off it’s a heal for 15% of your max life lol
I can see things being really broken if they did it incorrect, and there are a shit ton of variables to take into consideration before making shield usable with other 1 handed weapons.

No we S&S players don’t need an extra 25 fucking attributes when we have our shield out but we do deserve to be equalized when it comes to PVP with our offhand. Not being able to hit 300/200 is one of the dumbest fucking things.
This is really what it is.
You do realize that if you use the winter reward sword, and board you can hit 300/200. It’s also something they could pretty easily change, by just changing a few values on all the other swords and shields. It’s pretty clear those extra stats on the shield aren’t game breaking balance wise for tanks, it could also open up the shield to later being used with other weapons.
I mean asking them to make larger changes instead of a few simple numeric changes is much less likely to ever get done. They still haven’t managed to put the smelter set in, or made the chef chest drop off a mob around more than once every server restart. They also need to address some of the design issues that guarantee each server will degenerate in population. Then there are some of the quests that have showstopper problems. The other changes that are causing the game to bleed players.
I guess I would rather have the simple Band-Aid solution for this while they focus on the things that are straight going to murder the game.
Of course you’ll be doing horrible dmg in mutations thanks to the artificial handicap imposed on even slightly lower gear scores than recommended in them…but you’ll get that 300/200.
It’s an example you missed the point entirely.
Point being they could go through very easily just change all the attributes for all the swords, and shields. Without the risk of seriously breaking something. then spend more time on the many real issues causing poor player retention.
Besides there are plenty of logical reasons that each having full stats works fine. Also currently shields have zero impact on gear score.
cant do that since giving the shield 30 stats would make Sns have 30 more stats than anyother build then that would not be fair for anyone else. Sns having split attributes between its sword and Shield is how its suppose to be.
SnS is after all just 1 weapon that is split into 2 skill trees.
I disagree since nobody has complained about the winter event sword, and shield.
Besides it would be a nice precursor to allowing other weapons to be used with shields. Also since everyone has access to sword, and shield it’s hardly game breaking. Then you also have to consider that currently S&B is lackluster at best.
They don’t need to do that though…and “very easily change the attributes for all the swords and shields” is nowhere near as easy as the code looking to see if a sword is in one of the weapons slots and if it is then applying the shield’s stats regardless of whether or not the sword is in your hand so please don’t use it as some “this is the easy way to do it” example.
I’m a tank, I live with S&S, so I’m as invested in shield stats properly applying to my 2nd weapon as anyone is, but one anomaly - and the convergence S&S are exactly that, an anomaly - does not mean people wouldn’t be complaining if S&S stats were suddenly doubled.

No one is complaining yet, because a seriously limited use anomaly that is not remotely mainstream isn’t causing an issue. Of course there aren’t complaints yet - do you think any tanks running Gen, Laz, or the Mutations are doing it with that pair of 520s? They’re garbage for tanking anything but minor open world PvE content:

Nah! Slap a band-aid on it and fix the real issues. Heck they still don’t have all the sets in the game. some pieces drop off mobs only around once every server restart. There are show stopper bugs in quests. If they do not address the issues it’s not even going to matter.
You can actually use the shield it has zero impact on GS meaning the lazy scaling doesn’t apply. If you compare it to a 600 orichalcum tower shield there is only a minor difference. If they add an ice mutation it will shine. Linking the kite shield rather then the tower shield? Are you sure you tank in this game?
The anomaly as you call it should be the norm.
