Gold ores price

Higher tier materials are worthless, lower tier materials are worth something.

The system is a pyramid and base materials are at the bottom. However the demand for them is insane because you need so many of them. However in higher level zones they become rare and there is a lot of other things to collect that are high end. Less people therefore are collecting low level zones of materials and lots of people are collecting mid or high end materials. The bottleneck is the base materials. Three days ago I farmed 36k rawhide. Mind numbing farming to be sure. But I only needed 2 k iron hide. That’s the problem. They had a goal with this system I’m sure. I just don’t know what it could have been. They needed to find someone who worked on an mmo before I think. Maybe we are just playing wrong?

The current changes have made crafing higher tier stuff worth more XP and worthwhile now versus crafting lower tier stuff. My usual grind was gunpowder for engineering, I looked and needed 78k more xp to level and I was just under half a level, and gunpowder only giving me 96xp. I looked at orichalcum tools which are tier 5, 10k xp per. So higher tier materials should start changing in price now depend on primary materials required for that tier.

Jewellery is still screwed regardless because the gems are what is used for the tier, other materials are just for gear score, so silver is still the main ore.

It would have been much different in a pvp environment, which is what the resources were designed for. The PVP would have restricted a lot of access so they had to make resources very abundant. When they went to pvp/pve they didn’t rework the resource issue cuz pve’ers like to farm.

To all the people saying gold is used only for Jewelry let me tell you as a level 200 Jewelcrafter…I never once used gold or platinum. For some reason the jewelry system was designed that whether you used silver, gold, or platinum, the amount of xp you got for making a brilliant diamond neglace (insert any jewelry item) was unchanged. Therefore you only ever used silver. Then you reached Orichalcum and asmodeum which required 0 gold to craft.

Exactly what bananaking said. 90% of the responses in this thread have been “tell me you don’t know a thing about jewelcrafting while positing on the state of gold ore prices”.

They ruined an entire resource line by lazily tying it into azmodeum/orichalcum in what I assume was an effort to save time and cut corners to get the game out of the door. Silver jewelry even with T5 gems in it gives the same xp regardless of what material you use to craft it so silver is the only part of the process in silver/gold/platinum that is in demand. Platinum doesn’t refine into orichalcum so the entire resource line is DOA.

Even if xp is increased by using gold/platinum settings and what have you it’s only a bandaid fix. Gold and platinum will raise in value slightly because of the increased xp until there isn’t anyone left on your server that regularly increases that demand. Then back to completely worthless. The only solution is to either tie platinum into the orichalcum refining process at an increased rate (IE 12 ingots to make one orichalcum bar) so that it can share in the value of the resource that ultimately crafts end game items for the profession or introduce new tiers of metal, past platinum, that are independent of orichalcum/azmodeum entirely.

EDIT

all this “Lower tier resources bottleneck the higher tier ones” stuff is applicable for starmetal, silkweed, etc. It is not for gold and platinum. Not only are silver veins plentiful they drop 2x the silver ore of a similarly sized iron vein. They aren’t being mined because 5 silver ingots is on average the same value if not less than 1 iron ingot. Why would you waste bag space and time gathering a mat that is 1/5-1/10th the value of something else that is as plentiful if not more so.
