I have an overlay running while I play the game to monitor settings, and my power consumption randomly likes to spike above my limit and even sometimes, SUPER HIGH ABOVE MY LIMIT. It will run between is 85-100 and then randomly peak over to 110-120 which worries me, and then occasionally go to the moon with an over 200% power consumption reading.
You can see the exact same issue, when my card was set to 100% it had spikes up to almost 106%, making it risky at best. That is at 1920x1080, when i play at my default 1440p it would spike to 110%, in the fake 4k i registered 115%.
It is partly the games fault. Yes they are faulty GPU’s if they die to this, but the game will push them beyond stock safe levels, which it shouldnt. That combined with Nvidias aggressively high volts at stock is what is causing the issues.
Again, Reduce your power target to 85% or lower if you want to play this game 100% safely, just because your card is handling it fine now, doesnt mean it will continue too.
The warnings have been loud and clear at this point for anyone complaining of issues.
Personally I have mine set to 75% for new world because it only changes the FPS by 1-2 on average. If you are happy with 60 FPS lock on top of this, depending on your GPU, you could potentially run it much lower.
The other more involved method is undervolting the card, to find the lower end of its stable voltage, which fixes the issue for the card, but still doesnt excuse the game. Peronally I now have my card at 0.800v (stock is 1.065v, ridiculous) stable at 1800mhz and benchmarks higher scores than stock because it never hits throttle or heat limits anymore. ASUS 3060 ti.
I also saw that on jayz video. But you should really be rallying against manufacturers selling crap that shouldn’t have passed QA.
The game itself doesn’t pull more power than the power limit, it can only ask to render or process something and it’s up to the card firmware to scale up or down the power/clocks to meet that demand.
Sbould Amazon optimize the game? Sure, do they have some fps bottlenecks? Yes they do. But is ultimately the card Bios and power system the ones that are in control of the hardware.
Now to your issue, the card also has a Silent bios, if I’m not mistaken. Power caps are way lower and the card is not allowed to draw over 100% of the TDP. The only down side is that the card will run a bit hotter out of the box, since the fan curves let the GPU get closer to 80c, but is not a risk long term and you can change this with Afterburner.
I have lowered the power limit consumption to 75% and am now going to play it to see the differences. I might lock the FPS at 60 and then just see how it pans out
Hello there, I own a asus rog strix rtx 2070 oc too and started playing New World. My first day of playing was everything fine, the power consumption seems to be constant. I was happy, today I started the game again and also my OSD and what happened is, my power consumption was kind of weird. It didn’t go above my limit, but still up and down like crazy. I waited and changed area, maybe it’s area related thing, no it didn’t matter. After a while I ended the game and opened Final Fantasy 14 for testing does happen the same there? No, my power consumption was constant. Sure if I changed area the power target changed, but it was not like up and down like a crazy whatever. Now I am sitting here and ask myself, should I keep playing New World? For the safety of my hardware no. I wait now they fix this. I don’t say stop playing the game, BUT EVERYONE should check his power consumption and if it goes crazy, use it on your own risk. It’s not my hardware which will broke, it’s yours. This is a way too to write a game history. No one will ever forget what happened in Gaming Industries 2021. Fact is New World is very poorly coded game - well done Amazon.
Been running my dirt old ancient Zotac GTX 780 AMP! Edition (factory OC, powerhungry BIOS) at 70% power target ever since the start. Had same issues on BETA… The fault isn’t only RTX cards, yay surprise!
I’ve had 37 blackscreen crashes while playing NW at 100% power target, the same kind that apparently killed RTX 30 cards in the BETA. Looks like older cards have higher tolerance to this crap.
Ever since turning down power target to 70%, it maxes out at 87%… Sucks it wasn’t a RTX issue only, my 780 performs like shit already on 100% target, now it barely runs at all with lowered cap.
I really doubt this to be a hardware issue, had same issue on old R9 380, with the card essentially burning alive and throttling every single time I launched NW… The game devs are awfully quiet about this, none of the GPU threads have been responded on, in fact, in another thread about some guys dead laptop GPU they just copy pasted the same bot response they do if you contact their outsourced support that also have no idea about anything relevant. “Reinstall drivers”…
MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner statistic for in-game OSD. Running 80% TDP currently, but numbers go higher than 106% which is the max my card is normally able to do in Afterburner.
Thanks for the report. I’m really sorry about the problem you’re having.
Here are some steps to try and solve. We know that you have already tried, and that it can be repetitive, but as I inform you, many have been able to fix it after doing the steps.
Check for pending BIOS updates.
Verify that the drivers are correct and up to date: New World Compatible GPU Driver Update - Support. Manufacturers added some improvements to card drivers in order to improve consumption and overheating.
Check the EAC: Locate the game directory, and then select the “EasyAntiCheat” subfolder. Click EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe to run the installer as an administrator, fix it if necessary.
Note: The Steam Games installation directory will generally be in: C:\Program Files\ Steam (x86)\ SteamApps\ Common
Avoid using VPN, and you should remove other programs such as bots to mine or fish or to avoid being AFK. Even overlays from unofficial Amazon maps.
