Anyone else noticing higher GPU temps after this last patch? I’m experiencing around a 20 degree (C) rise over pre patch temps on a 4080 (13700 and 32GB RAM). Idle temps are what I’ve seen without game running. I know the code isn’t optimized but this caught me by surprise. Just curious if it’s common or if anyone else has seen similar.
Yeah my p.c sounded like a big block v8 engine trying to race me at a stop light haha
Just got off and figured it has something to do with the update
There was a new NVidia driver released on 2.8.2023. Perhaps you may need to update your driver or re-apply your NVidia Control Panel settings, as depending on which installation type you chose, it can clear your settings.
Thank you for the reminder
Good to know. I will wait a few days before updating.
I did find some other advice previously, which was that you should re-apply your in-game video settings after a patch, as the settings do not always seem to stick.
Alternatively, you could try rolling your driver back to a previous stable version, to see if that lowers your GPU temperatures.
I will check my GPU temperatures when I get home from work today, I have a 3080, but if it is affecting your 4080, it will most likely be affecting my 3080 as well.
tried capping your FR?
My 2080 sounds like it’s preparing for takeoff.
FR capped at 60
3440x1440
Common for them to break things after any given patch, it’s just in the engine lol.
x set up is fine, x set up is not fine.
This entire engine is rng…
Same temps with frames capped. Only other thing I play is GW2 and that’s more cpu intensive…gpu temp on that in the 40-50 range. 4080 not in overclocked mode. I’ll just keep an eye on it and see what the next patch brings I guess.
I do not think that the NVidia Driver Update would affect your CPU usage in-game, unless you chose the Clean Installation option and it cleared out your NVidia Control Panel settings. If your settings were cleared, perhaps that could have caused your CPU to start doing more of the computational work for New World, instead of your GPU?
If that is the case, then re-applying your settings in the NVidia Control Panel should resolve the higher CPU usage.
I do not believe that Microsoft has released their February patch yet, as they usually do that on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, so I am not sure what else could have caused your CPU usage to spike, other than something within the game’s coding itself, if it was not the NVidia Driver Update issue.
Mine never went below 100% cpu usage after brimstone update no performance uplift but GPU also won’t go above like 70%
So pretty much rng game and settings
I’m just so glad none of cpu or GPU benchmarks take this game for testing lol
I did notice all the graphics settings were turned to very high so I put them back to how I had it before and there was no change. I’ll play about with it and see if anything has changed thanks ![]()
I would check your NVidia Control Panel settings as well. If they were cleared due to using the Clean Installation option, when installing the NVidia Driver Update, that could also cause much more high temperatures and CPU usage, especially if your PhysX processor was changed from the GPU to the CPU:

The original post wasn’t about an Nvidia Graphics update, it was about the latest New World patch. Haven’t logged in yet today so I curious to see if the “restart” has any impact. Thanks for the discussion all.
I have not noticed any increase in GPU or CPU usage, on my laptop or gaming desktop, since Patch 1.8.2, and I have been checking yesterday and today as well on both systems.
