I think Muskets ought to have a more realistic reload time. When someone gets set on fire by a fire staff user, they die, people dumb enough to get hit by a great ax should loose a limb or be staggered for a few minutes.
Removing inertia and animation locks would just turn this game into a generic ice-skating simulator. Might as well go play Guild Wars 2 or ESO then. At least those games work.
If anything, I’d like to see the return of stagger if not on all attacks then on specific ones. Soulslike-inspired combat is literally the only thing NW has going on for it right now at end-game.
Skill ceiling could easily be raised in other ways, such as adding frame-perfect blocking (think, Sekiro), generic parries or other mechanics from soulslike and fighting games. AGS don’t need to reinvent the wheel, they just find the right nuts and bolts that are already out there.
ESO has soft aim and guild wars is tab target it would be nothing like either of those

However the idea of removing animation locks all over the place doesnt improve it as a 3rd person action game, it probably makes it worse.
that type of thing works for fps, but in third person games with melee, the whole game is about interaction.
when you see that video, you notice its basically just floating around hitting and getting hit.
now, this game does need to handle the whole action combat better, it will probably only get worse with time, as they probably didnt keep or develop many specialist developers in tweaking action combat, but they will be making changes without experts.
I think the best answer is to hire some action combat specialist devs and have them keep improving things.

Its way more than floating around and getting hit. With that type of movement freedom all the the small ways you can outplay your opponent become unlimited. If they had this type of movement and iframes and no animation locks there would be larger gap between your average player a skilled one.

in what universe does this games clunky laggy melee combat remind you of darkfall? even mentioning darkfall in the same sentence as this pile of trash game is an insult to the greatest game ever made 
there is no commitment to an attack, which means no counterplay. This makes sense for FPS but not for fighting.
