Ah. I’d have to see where they said that then. Anyone have the link as proof?
I mean, granted… I know proving stuff is frowned on in this forum but I’ll ask anyways just in case.

if you dont know what overtuned means you really shouldnt be a part of this discussion
overtuned = 1. (gaming) Of game characters: having more tools than others.
Gotcha. So the Greatsword comes with lots of free tools? That sounds awesome imho.
What’s the problem there?
You can test it on ptr. So if you cant test it you can make opinion about it.
Exscuse me, what? Light armor shirking meta everywhere, mostly with bows, and this is “good spot” for now? Are we talking serious or we started with jokes?
Don’t you get 20% dmg bonus after onslaught ability, but take 20% more dmg?
read again. not a lot of free tools, but more free tools then others. sure it is fun. oneshotting tanks with blunderbuss was fun to. fighting 10 people with a void blade was fun to. was it healthy tho?
So… the sword “doesn’t” come with free tools? That’s certainly a bummer. Got all excited for a second there ![]()
The GS is literally trash when it comes to gapclosing or chasing anybody down.
Yea the dps is strong. As it should be without any real cc or gapcloser which literally every other weapon has
There’s a huge feedback thread dedicated to tuning the greatsword on the PTR, i would suggest putting any and all feedback there. As that is the focus feedback they are looking for.
But you will need to format your feedback a little better for them to pick up on it. They have a guide included.
Some of our greatest minds are theorycrafting, making great suggestions and working hard to make sure that it comes out tuned fairly and that it makes sense. There are spreadsheets comparing damage, skills, cooldowns to all other weapons with videos and great guides already to get you started.
Hope to see you in there!
[Focus Feedback & Bug Reporting] New Weapon: The Greatsword - Public Test Realm - New World Forums
GS is not trash at chasing people down, it has very good range on heavies and their abilities. They have 20% haste from onslaught every 10 seconds, and a gap closer. Not every weapon is supposed to do it all, it’s why we have 2. But id say the GS has too many tools for 1 weapon.
Dude, they pushed reported bugs, why would people still waste energy and time to provide constructive feedback?
Is this time any different? Is this the breakpoint? I hope so. The community was engaged and got slapped more than twice with every patch. If this time is different, we may go back to be part of the process, but so far, since… 1.2 release, all PTR feedback and report was mostly and gruesomely ignored, pushed to live, and we had to suck it up till next patch/patches.
Well, i’m just trying to funnel all this feedback, to the actual feedback thread.
People are opening hundreds of these little ones, but they are not going to get the attention that the focus feedback thread gets.
That’s part of the same issue as last time, people will create thread after thread that gets washed to the bottom. when theres a focus feedback thread that they are actively checking on this exact issue.
Fair enough
That’s the exact same meta as of right now with the exception of GS being thrown into the mix.
Exactly.
A premade meta with extra steps.
light armor is the biggest crutch in the game right now and to imply otherwise shows how long you’ve been playing the game. Light has always been king. The devs removed weapon sheath after dodge to avoid the snare mechanic that is supposed to be built into the pvp combat… which was a literal known bug exploit that was in the pipeline to be fixed since summer beta test… Without the snare, light armor is literally categorically better than heavy and medium equip loads.
You know this, and if not you need to learn how the game works. Capped fortify by dodging through an attack, cleansing dots via dodge and 10 yards distance should be more than sufficient for light armor to be able to get away.
But what happened? Whiners complained about “clunky” pvp… whatever that word even means lmfao… anyways these whiners were especially loud because the game had a dying population.
I remember the first day I learned I could even sheath my weapon after dodge rolling… i was in literal awe at how powerful that was. First month into release.
here is a player with far too much self-esteem.
between us, I think that the one who is not good in pvp is the one who can’t counter a GS.
you just need to know how to dodge a little, and stun a GS player to smash it as it should.
with a WH you have enough to stun + burst a GS
with a GA, you have a very strong impact on a GS as well.
with a Hatchet as well.
there are still adjustments to be made of course, but reread what I said, you can’t be so categorical when you only play PTR, without opti stuff, with players who try and not try hard
This is just theory crafting you doing. The man extensively tested it while you smash them possible outcomes with many counters while in reality the gs will immune your stun and smash your face before you even react. Hammer it’s so slow that unless you get staggered or stunned from someone else you ain’t getting them stuns on anyone. Perforate together with flurry are the 2 fastest abilities in the game and you rarely land all 3 perforate hits on a good player. Imagine landing a hammer stun on a good gs player or going face to face with a hatchet that looses the damage exchange face to face
in French we call it an “argument d’authorité”
who tells you that I have not tested the weapons more than the author of the post here?
what I say is however simple and cannot be contradicted: the Test server is not enough to know what will be meta or not. we can draw trends from it but between the PTR version and the live version there will be big changes, and the first of them will be the players, the number of players, the optimization and the “try hard” of the players a test what is strong, and what can counter.
the GS is not a very fast weapon, you can dodge
if you are in offensive stance you take a lot of damage,
when you block an attack from a GA you will take 15% more damage.
the GS is very interesting, but I repeat, it is not as OP as the void gauntlet or BB were when they came out.
the GS will be especially strong when it will surprise the adversaries.
