Yep it’s not consistent. I think it’s also due to how they changed it to “cancelling” the heal target completely if a target goes out of range or out of LoS (line of sight). It’s very strange, especially with the scroll system because if you scroll over anyone LoS or out of range, it cancels fully, whereas before it would just heal yourself or come up with the LoS info (but you would still stay in the targeting mode which I preferred).
Biggest frustration is if this situation happens:
Start casting on teammate 1, but you have to suddenly scroll to save & heal teammate 3. Both teammate 1 and 3 are in range & LoS, BUT teammate 2, 4, and 5 are out of range or LoS.
Unless you: Cast on teammate 3 to BEGIN with, or you use the keybind and it works, OR you use manual target lock to pre-select – it’s impossible to scroll to their name to heal them… Lol. Keybindings and/or manual target lock are forced settings we would have to use, which restricts the way we want to play as healers, in addition to the many restrictions we’ve been given already. I’m already now under the assumption I’ll have to change my heal playstyle completely, somehow.
Solution?:
Firstly, I totally understand that this was implemented to fix healers bypassing line of sight, SO: I think it should change back to how it heals yourself (or doesn’t heal anything) if ANY of the LoS or out of range issues occur, so we can still smoothly select targets within range/LoS without unnecessary interference of “complete ability-cancel” that adds time & hassle to how we try to clutch save people dying in our team.
^^imagine that situation in a hectic war scenario where you can’t exactly keep up with which direction your teammate is, and trying to cast/scroll a heal that ALWAYS ability-cancels when trying to select their name to heal because the name next to theirs in the UI is out of range/LoS, and you can’t land your crosshair on their character perfectly to start the cast on them first. Casting-time for DE/LE is one thing, this just adds even more time to re-select a teammate perfectly which is incredibly difficult to do in wars especially. Damn I’ll be pulling my hair out with how frustrating it will be haha.
With all that in mind, then there is the seemingly bugged targeting with scroll OR keybinds even when everyone is in range, as you’ve all mentioned. So I’m not sure about that exactly, but maybe these two things go hand-in-hand together as part of the bug/issue??
