Have the Devs actually played their own game?

There are a few…well, maybe not few, but there are issues that I have come across that seem like they shouldn’t have been allowed to see public release.

Let’s talk about the quest Well Guardian. It is the last quest in the main story quest, and it has a quest level of 50! But anyone who has completed this quest knows it isn’t a level 50 quest. It is a level 60 elite/party quest. The Well Guardian is a level 60 raid boss, basically, with a ton of health, in a blighted area, and deals a ton of damage. And the best part is…if you completed this quest, you can’t help others who need to do it.

The problem isn’t the difficulty. The problem is…why is the quest classified as a level 50 normal quest? Did no one playing this game see this and go “you know what, maybe we should change the quest text to make it read 60 Elite quest” Because that is an option! I see it for other quests. The same goes for the level 580 weapon quests. Hey, you, go to this area and kill these mobs. Oh yeah, they are elite. But we won’t tell you that until you see them for yourself! And speaking of quests, the penalty of dying during a quest is so ridiculous. It basically is “you died try again from the very start” because the respawn timers, camp respawn spot, and objectives make you basically start over.

Next up is crafting. Why the hell are schematics included if no one can make them? Why is it nearly impossible to find tier 1 material (iron ore, etc) in high level areas? Every high level ingot, leather, cloth requires a ton of tier 1 materials. So instead of making it easier on everyone and making tier 1 nodes in high level areas, so lower levels aren’t competing with level 60s, everyone is in the 3 starter zones skinning boars, mining iron ore and fighting over the hemp plants.

Now we have PvP quests. hey, this is a great idea: Make all 3 quests the exact same. No variation at all. Because the game is repetitive enough as is, let’s turn that dial to 11 and make it that the pvP quests NEVER change. So, if I want to stop yellow from gaining ground in my land, all I have to do is get a small group of friends, and camp one location that I know they will be at. Because they have to go there in order to do the quest. I don’t have to do my pvp quests, all i have to do is camp, kill, and laugh because there is no simple variation in the pvp quests. You always have to mine 30 ore. you always have to kill 5 gators. You always have to do x, y and z every time.

This seems like a rant, but it is so frustrating when playing a modern MMO and they have simple, fixable issues that plagued the early MMOs. Some of the game design decisions are so baffling it makes you wonder if anyone from the dev team actually sat down and played the game.

I’ve been wondering about this too. Do devs test the gane they make?

Playing the game you make is the first step towards making progress in connecting and empathizing with players.

Going with a hard no. Have you seen Speculative Fixes in todays patch notes which are empty bullet points?

Speculative is not a fix.
