Healing system is terrible

Bump, this needs to be fixed

I think it all comes down to learning how to play the healer in a new game. I have been a healer in all the games I have played, where it was possible and in every game there was a learning curve.
I do not recognize your problem about healing random players, my heals always goes where I want it.
You might want to look in the game setting, under gameplay and change some setting there.

It’s not about learning at all. I can heal things comfortably. But for me personally it doesn’t change the fact that the system is clunky and awkward to use.

Have changed the settings around plenty to know what works best for me - but yeah, still awful system IMO.

I’m glad you don’t find it as bad as some of us do though haha

If you have never had a heal go where you didn’t want it to go, then you have not been healing for long or you’re just a liar. Any dedicated healer knows this pain and you expose yourself as a pretender by trying to claim otherwise. This is the most clunky healing system I have ever seen in any game ever, and I played Age of Conan. It is just bad and needs dire improvement if this game is to prosper.

So, because I know how to heal I haven’t played long enough or is a liar? I have played alpha, cb, ob and preview. I too had problems during cb, in the beginning (not mention alpha because heal almost didn’t exist at that time. People got the staff because of the blink) Maybe consider that I actually KNOW what I am doing!?

I think that no one won’t want to be a healer if the game won’t change for them…

Please take a good look at your key bindings, especially those for healing and then kindly learn how to heal yourself. What you are describing points to someone unable to read simple instructions and not to a terrible healing system.

Yes, it is not as easy as WoW - thats a good thing

I agree, the healing mechanic with target, non-target, changing target with scrolls and targeting self with ctrl etc is so annoing. I really hope they will change it as it should be. Any other weapon is made for a game without target, but healer is mixed…

You can turn this off in settings, although in some situations it’s very useful when you may want to only focus on your group. So you can turn it off/on when necessary.

You have to make sure you hold down the self cast key (default left Ctrl) before you begin casting a heal. If you’ve already started clicking to start the heal, you need to cancel out of that, hold down Ctrl, and then heal to heal yourself.

Alternatively, you can also turn off targeted heals so it doesn’t auto-target anyone at all, and then it should just go where you aim.

Or again a third option is to click middle mouse button when you want to turn off auto targeting on a per-cast basis, and then you could manually aim the AoE at your feet or anywhere else.

The game has a ton of options in the healing menu to play with to allow you to customize healing controls to your own style.

This actually tends to work better if you don’t scroll. If you watch your teammates and the fight, it’s actually much easier to attempt to actually aim at them. If they’re in front of you and you aim halfway decently it will most of the time target the person you want. If they’re behind you or out of LoS then obviously it won’t and you’d have to scroll.

Occasionally it will target another low HP player in front of the person you want to heal which is annoying (I wish switching targets was easier - both the scroll and the other option are clunky), but this is the only issue I have with it. I wish it were easier to change targets while aiming.

You wrote that your heals ALWAYS go where you want. That means that you NEVER have had a heal go to the wrong target. Yes, you’re a liar or you don’t heal much. Gas lighting isn’t going to work here.

I made some Self Select macros for this very reason.

Agreed, bump for visibility

better yet

get rid of sacred ground gtaoe.

mobs stagger and push back every hit.

its impossible to keep people in the field.

make it like beacon so it sticks to your target

The healing itself in this game isn’t difficult, the system is just awful. If you find it good, then that’s great for you. A lot of people don’t. It’s not a skill issue, I’ve never had issue healing anything.

The system is just clunky. Keybinds in this instance are irrelevant. If they smooth out targeting a little it will be good.

I’m having trouble with mouse wheel targeting.
My mouse is a Logitech MX Master. It has a very fast spinning wheel and is excellent for UI scrolling and navigation, but it performs horribly with the game’s current targeting system. Because the target is changing too quickly.

There is also the issue with targeting and being staggered by a mobs. Every time you take damage, the selected target is completely canceled, and you must retarget.

When you need to react quickly and heal someone, it takes far too long.

I believe that the current targeted healing system requires more keybinding options.
For example, when you enter targeting mode, press 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 to select and lock on to the corresponding party member.

Bump. Level 60 Healer, top 3 in my faction in multiple wars. The targeting system in this game is incredibly clunky.

I stare at someone with 10% hp and the game defaults my target heal to someone 10m away with full hp. Absolutely infuriating in wars.

At this point I’d prefer Divine Embrace & Light’s Embrace as skill shots. I have a more enjoyable experience with auto-targeting off in wars.

If AGS wants more pocket healing over AoE then design that into the skill and not the game settings.

So if you’re holding your self-cast button before you press the spell, it actually does cast it instantly on yourself.

If you press the spell first and then hit the self cast then yea it takes a second or two

I made my self cast Shift, so now I just hold shift first and press what I want and it’s easy self-healing

Good feedback in here.

Often it feels like you’re fighting the game to target and heal someone properly.

Would love key combinations to specifically target certain group members. F1 hotkey targets group person 1. F2 for target 2, etc

Bump for QOL update for healers. (Better Targeting System + Out of Range indicator/stopcast). This thread need not die.
