Help new lvl 60 w/ VG buld

Hello I recently reached level 60 and I have been researching the different options and what I would like, but need some help:

I want a build that would 1) be strongest in 1v1s and 3v3s. 2) but I also want to have enough movement to ensure that I can escape and catch people that are running away.

I am looking for a build that has melee and range options so probably something like
A) VG-ORB + Rapier or
B) VG-Blade + FS.

  1. Which build would be strongest on 1v1s/3v3s

  2. Which build would have more mobility?

  3. I hear that medium armor is meta. Is light amor at a disadvantage on melee combat? Is the bonus healing and bonus dmg not relevant? I want to have regeneration, divine and maybe one other healing perk on my jewlery.
I like having enough self heals… what VG build provides more heals orb or blade?

  4. or is there a better secondary weapon for my purposes?

Sorry for all of the questions I am very new and want to have a well though-out build

VG Blood Rapier you can kill healers in their sacred but is annoying to set up. VG FS you just flamethrower.

So VG will always have low mobility but that’s what balances it out. Specifically escaping. Chase is fine, as void blade heavy attacks have absurdly strong tracking and will launch you like 8m if you aim them right.

A1) VG Orb + Rapier (grace) will get you your mobility, but you will take a big dps loss. For that reason, I wouldn’t recommend this.

A2) VG Orb + Rapier (bleed) is a good assassin build, but I think there are better options.

B) VG blade + fire staff is totally possible, but it lacks the synergy of…

C) VG blade + ice gauntlet. The ice gauntlet provides strong utility and defense with storm, shower, and entombed. You don’t need mobility with VG/IG because of how strong you are defensively. Ice shower + blade will eat up any melee chasing you, so your only real threat is ranged.

In terms of perks and armor:

  • Medium is better for blade imo. Much more survivability.
  • Light armor healing bonus is not important because it doesn’t apply to lifesteal. It applies to things like orb of decay return heals, which are fairly weak.
  • Your best heals will be lifesteal. In addition to leeching on ring and weapon, look for the voracious blade perk. The names VG Souldrain is really good for this.
  • Get divine, health, and stamina recovery on your amulet. Those are expensive so you may have to sacrifice one of those.
  • Puetrfying scream and nullifying oblivion are both really strong perks to get.
  • All IG perks are good, and any one can go on your weapon. You could make an argument for all three but I’d choose Healing Tomb on your IG as it basically turns it into an extra health pot.
  • Stats: 300 INT/200 CON. Great mix of damage and survivability. No focus is needed, it would be a large dps loss for marginal healing gain (again, healing does not include lifesteal).

Overall this makes for a very strong melee mage build that pumps out damage while being very tanky. You don’t need escape mobility as for an enemy, fighting in your storm, shower, and/or oblivion is suicide, and the insane lifesteal from your blade means that you’ll win any melee hit trading.

Once you learn how to use VG heavies to chase, that will also be a non-issue.

Wow thanks for the details I appreciate it.

VG/IG sounds really good, the only thing that saddens me is not having a movement ability. What is the plan if someone tries to run from the fight?

You have a lot of options for locking people down:

  • VG blade heavy attack has a big lunge and will hit people running away.
  • Ice storm + IG heavy attack roots and slows.
  • VG scream roots.
  • Ice shower roots and slows.

Even though you don’t have a movement ability, with all the roots and slows, it’s very hard for people to get away from this build.
