I think this is honestly a great reason to have them. They are a nice tool to use to get new players into the game without feeling intimidated by a server full of max players. It let’s people experience the game differently. I think alongside other catch-up mechanics FSS every year after the expansion release isn’t a bad idea assuming they get merged into the main servers.
For those that used then to escape “dupes” and the whole fictitious “tainted server” narrative have shifted from pending disappointment to an active grieving process. I think many people this is their first entrance into an MMO and their expectations are vastly different from reality unfortunately. For some maybe it means this genre isn’t for them, that’s okay. We welcome new people! But for some they may be better off playing single player games because they cannot tolerate being “behind” or that feeling that they are behind. FSS can help dampen that feeling, but won’t work for everything with that issue. Ideally people are there to Amrine with similarly leveled players and do open world PVP at lower levels, etc
Anyways. Single player games are great for that “god-like” I’m better than all of the NPCs feeling that some people are chasing.
