High levels (40-60) in low level (1-25) areas

This isnt a thing. There are NO resources intended for low lvl characters. ALL resources are intended for ALL players with the appropriate lvl to acquire them. Resources are locked behind skill trees not player levels. You can be a lvl 20 and farm wyrdwood trees for example. A mat you cant use at that lvl due to the GS that resource makes.

there’s just a lot more in the lower level areas.

how much tax you pay depends on territory, who owns it, whats your discounts, etc.

however if iron ore is actually one of the most valuable resources, and you are going to use 100k more iron ore, that you could have sold, how much gold are you behind?

how much tax do you suppose you’d have to be paying to offset 100k iron ore. on my server right now iron or is .34 gold thats 34000 gold.
I can assure you, you aren’t paying 34000 in taxes, and, from what people say here, my servers iron ore price is low.

also low level items aren’t tax free, and when you are doing 10-20 times the amount of crafts you rack up quite a bill.

the guides out there totally ignore smelting, which even if you believe in low level crafting, should still lower mats by 10-20%. it was an oversight, and assumptions based on the info they had at the time. And also based on a day one economy that didnt have a market.

the reward is that you literally need things from there to craft good items

crafting GS bonus gear
Rare Materials
gathering bonus gear
better reagents

which isn’t to say you are totally wrong, its more risky depending on you level/gear etc, but if you don’t get it yourself, you must buy it from others, which is fine, if thats how you prefer to do things, but it isn’t objectively better

I can gather 2-4k iron ore every 10min. I’m not buying any resources, most of these guides don’t even recommend buying resources. It costs me 11 gold to refine 4k iron ore on my server.

So again, it’s still the cheapest route.

not really, if you are spending extra ore, you are spending extra money, but I’d have to do the math to tell you the straight up gold difference.

but if thats the method you prefer, for whatever reason, thats good. Its a flexible system then.

The crafting resource system is to blame really. Crafting resources are increased x2 for each tier increase while there seems to be an overwhelming amount of higher tier resource nodes. I need 32 iron ore ->16(iron ingots)->8(Steel ingots)->4(starmetal ingots) etc something like this for just the iron ore usage. Same goes for all resources.

The only place to get iron efficiently is in new zones.

i add pertified wood to that short list of beyond most definitions of rare…

i farm everywhere, and i go to all the farms/ships etc… anywhere i can get flux etc. if i see someone lower struggling, i make sure they get half a kill in(old habits die hard) and help them out.

totally agree. In any MMO its MUCH BETTER when low lvl location is only for low lvl. And when 95% of the server goes highlvl its very awesome when lowlvl running dead cities without any trade or help from another players instead of few lowlvls as them and its totally not made them think that server is f@#$g dead…

Agreed! I have several expeditions I want to do from Lvl 35 upwards and I am now lvl 52 and still waiting for other players. I post on the chat in all rooms, but no-one turns up!

Issue is that all the high tier mats require the lower tier mats to craft. Iron ore is worth more than orac ore which is really stupid. Silver, gold, platinum pretty much worthless.

I think what they should have done is make it so you need gold ingots for starmetal and you need platinum ingots for orac. That way it would still keep those lower level areas populated enough and make the value of these higher tier ores more

Best design in MMO ever. It awful when low level locations are empty

Linking auctions may help with this.

Linking auctions will not help with this.

Windsward and Everfall will always be central hubs. It’s easier as a high level crafter to buy the t4/5 materials and to bulk up on them in your inv. Those two cities have iron, hemp, greenwood, and rawhide in bulk- and are very easy to access. It’s much more efficient to keep the heavier t4/5 materials in your inventory, run outside, and gather the base materials to refine.

If anything, linking trading posts will allow players to essentially never leave those two zones, and will ultimately make gathering t1 resources near impossible.

Gotta mine 500,000 iron to make 20 orichalcum.

So many people in this thread that don’t know how the resources work. Sad you don’t understand a simple game

Lots of necro-posts being done today. But, since it’s here, I might as well add my voice as to why a lot of higher level characters stay in the 1 - 25 zones, or at least my reasoning.

It’s because the respawn rates for quests at my level were too fast for me to complete them, and my gear would be ruined and I’d have to spend all my coin on repair costs.

So, the only thing I could do if I wanted any money and didn’t want to die with a huge repair bill is run around naked doing quests in the 1 - 25 areas.

I was thinking ppl may find it easier to buy the low tier resources rather than run or use azoth to travel back and forth

Did all the 1-25 quests in the 4 starter zones, levelled all craft related stuff to 100 by self harvesting and voila I was level 44.

Also by far the easiest, quickest way to do basic supply chest runs/food runs/iron farming is in the 4 starter zones when you can one shot most everything without trying or at worst two shot.

I don’t see anything wrong with this unless the higher level players are taking the resources a lower-level person was trying to collect. ie finishing kills and skinning it otherwise it’s first come first serve.
