It quite literally locks on to a target and flies straight towards them with an incredibly quick animation… That’s as homing as it gets in this game. No need for pedantry just because it doesn’t do 360s in mid air. If you’re looking at your targets general location and press leap… chances are its going to hit with relatively little thought to aim. (assuming they don’t block/dodge but that can be said for everything not just leaping strike)
It only needs one skill to hit for someone to be 100-0 or close. If you hit with leaping strike, they’re dead. If you miss leaping you have a second chance with bash to start the combo there, they’re dead. Much less likely but you could then even try for the knockdown with blast, if you get it, they’re dead or pretty damn close.
I agree. And I can tell you since the betas, I haven’t switched out of rapier as a mainhand weapon, i’ve tried pretty much every combination of weapon with it. I’ll tell you what happens with sns/rapier since we’re on the subject…
You get the leaping strike and bash cc off… hooray
You tondo, easy hit… they were stunned, but now they’ve ‘woken’ up… which bring us back to:
They’re back to either running/dodging/blocking/attacking while you have to try get more tondo stacks or hit flourish… for again a miniscule amount of damage
When you find a ‘combination’ that allows rapier 3 bleed stacks AND a flourish and finish hit, while the opponent is cc’d and has no way to fight back from one easy to hit skill - WHILE ALSO 100-0 comboing them… then we can start comparing the two and basing this off of just ‘the right combination’
Rapier loses most engagements that it tries to ‘stick around for’ its damage is weaker, has little to no tracking, no sustain and has a small potential for cc… there’s a reason its been a mobility/utility stick since… well the beginning.
They’re interlinked. Without me even touching the sns/bb combo I can confidently say I’d be just as, if not infinitely more, effective than I am with a weapon i’ve played since the betas… If it takes someone 1 hour or less of practice (it really wouldn’t take longer) to learn most of the fundamentals of that weapon/combination it, by default, takes much less ‘skill’ than if it were difficult and required much more time learning the ins and outs, timing, weapon knowledge etc
Now this isn’t to say this game is ‘high skilled’ at all, the skill cap is rock bottom, AGS made sure of that, however there are a few outliers relative to the other weapons/combinations.
Bottom line is the bb combo, once you’ve learned the order of buttons, is the same. Every. Single. Time. There’s little counterplay. No extra thought. You have one thing to worry about… hitting leaping strike/bash/blast shot, hit any of them and you’ve won in a matter of seconds. (Speaking solely on the sns combo, if sns is nerfed and bb isn’t nerfed/reworked, people will just find the next root/cc opportunity in grav well/ice shower, heck maybe even vg scream again)
