Higher buy-in actually filters out more bots because if they get banned before they can make their money back with RMT it wont be worth it as they have to be able to make enough money to support that, at current rates that’d mean (at minimum) making 11k gold before they get banned.
Subs would not make any difference a higher game price wouldn’t…
I like the idea of the occasional mob spawning. I spent part of one evening dragging mobs over to fishing bots. Got to watch a level two pirate kill level 15 and 16 bots a few times. Then they adjusted and moved where the mobs would run back before engaging them. Having something pop up every few casts that attacks would help. Nothing nasty that would cause an actual player to need to do more than a couple of light attacks to dispense of the creature.
Make it so active hot spots don’t have the nasty things in them so players don’t get interrupted when at an active hot spot. Cast a little long though and game on.
please kindly end yourself. I pay for enough shitty subscriptions in my life, I don’t want to have to pay for another one to play a game I already payed for.
If i wanted to pay a subscription I would go play WoW or FFXIV
But honestly i find fishing bots are the last thing to be worried about, regarding all the issues the game has, Gold Dupe, Item Dupe, invincibility etc, and fishing bots got nerfed after removing the Gold from chests so please no one cares now about them … they are the last thing that worries Amazon at this point lol
Theoretically bots (and RMT) can be quite harmless. If the game doesn’t give players a compelling reason to buy coin from them, they won’t make good enough profit and will probably focus on another game. The gold-making model here already thwarts them a lot, as there’s very little need for the Trading Post so they can’t even just vacuum up mats and sell for decent coin, like they would in many other games.
So probably the best move AGS can do against bots (and RMT) is to make the economy reasonable.
Lag cheat, invincibility cheat, gold duping… all those are much more serious issues and should have been handled in a much better way much earlier.
The botting and exploits in this game are incredibly awful. I have always thought that sub-to-play games were better, because I think it alleviates a lot of issues (including steady financial support for the game), but I don’t think it would eliminate bots. Games have gotten pretty close by altering the way items are obtained in games, though.
That said, PLEASE don’t assume someone who is fishing is a bot. I am sick of fishing and having some pr*ck think they are big-brain and try to kill me with exploitable mob-mechanics. I’m not obligated to acknowledge your existence on-demand, and no, non-response doesn’t mean I’m a bot.
The difference between you and I recognizing bots and AI recognizing bots is greater than you imagine. I’d wager its not “permitted” so much as it’s harder than you imagine to catch
“Smart” fish bots go to place where you cant do that (like this one hotspot where you need to swim to get on a rock from where you then fish). You cant aggro mobs on them
Before AGS removed the gold coins from chest (Support says it’s a bug but the deafening silence since then seems to imply otherwise), a fish bot could yeald from gold coins alone between 10k to 20k a day. So yes, they could screw an already shaky economy easily
Sadly when I asked people on server to come check on bots and report or just trust me and report, half of the answers were along the lines that I was the kind of guy who would have denounced his neighbourg for being jews during WW2… (well this was almost a direct quote of one of the answers I got)
Like it’s ok to bot but not ok to tell on bots…
They were reported but not sure by a lot of people as the chan was half on the “report the bot” side the otherhalf on the “boting is less offensive than reporting boting” side (which was said in a much more colorful way and from then on the discussion escalated quickly as you can imagine)
