Honest question. What is the desire for fresh start servers?

So you are staying that everyone posting for a fresh start server, including yourself do not play the game at all? That in every single case the people are waiting on a new “fresh start” server to come back before they play?

I am not sure how you polled or acquired all that information, but its an impressive feat none the less.

And how are you going to keep out the gold makers who want to power level and take fast territories on new servers?

We have already stated numerous times that we understand the plight, but what you do not understand is that what you are asking for will be extremely short lived. The issues that plague current servers may actually be worse on fresh start servers.

[quote="DoobieScoobie]
Mega companies that own the maps are full of all the 2000k plus hour players. Retuning players want to experience the game from the start with all the fixes without being abused by Chads that have been playing for a year.
And what measures is AGS going to take to ensure Chads do not power level and take over the territories in fresh start servers?
I have not seen this issue mentioned.

Agree, agree and agree.
But what is going to change this on a fresh start server when the Chads come over and start new mega companies to rule the economy?

And you think that bots will not be an issue on fresh start servers? Heck, if anything bots are going to be ramped up by gold seller companies to make that fast gold and control the economy in their favor.

Fresh start servers work well on paper, in practice it will be another story.

I’ll be a returning player (only got to level 52 upon release) and I’d welcome a fresh start server without transfer capability. I’d delete my old character in order to learn the game again on a server with a fresh economy.
I’ve been levelling up a new character yesterday just to get back into the feel of playing and whilst I’m not keen on the combat, I do very much love the immersion of New World! I like WoW and Fortnite style graphics and this is the first game to make realism style graphics fun for me.
Im not going to be racing to end cap, I’ll likely enjoy the quests and level up all professions as I go, as I do like to be self sufficient, as I find auction houses far to expensive a lot of the time and I’ve never been a rich player of an AH fiend.

Hope the fresh start servers open soon as I really want to get cracking!

My top reasons to join a fresh start server will be because:

  1. All new quest line and town models
  2. Upgrade and leveling all crafting to 200 and not feel like getting behind with all the legendary items on TP that are in the current servers.
  3. The feeling of progress when you leveling up with other players in same level and GS as you progressing up to end game content and not have experienced players that runs all mutation +1 to +10 1000times already).

Why?

  • To play on servers where everyone can start at L1 in the newly remodeled zones and experience the newly revamped 1-30 gameplay.
  • To start at L1 on servers where there aren’t already multi-millionaires running around in BiS/near-BiS 625s in a broken economy.
  • To start on servers where there are no transfers in and therefore not instantly dominated by entire companies parachuting in capped and geared players to insta-dominate the map.
  • To start on servers that launch with some of the ‘anti-shell company’ changes and revenue splits implemented so WW and EF aren’t the only game in town and 1 company and its shells can’t easily own the entire map.

I won’t say I’m speaking for everyone, but I know one thing that has traditionally made life hard for new players in MMOs that have been around for a while is joining a server where prices are already pre-inflated and most players are already at cap (leaving very few interested in running low level content with them).

These are some of the reasons I’m willing to kill off my alt and roll a fresh L1 on one when they launch. I think it will give me a bit of that “new car smell” experience many of us have on day one in a new MMO.

Server health is always going to be a tenuous prospect. Upcoming changes will definitely help, but won’t be the end of it. I get why people desire fresh start servers (more than the pvp server crowd at least) but I think the point is that they won’t be perfect either, and nobody can relive launch day.

As someone who took a break and came back during medleyfaire, idk. The only place you really see the imbalance is war. Open world is a numbers game, OPR is 50/50 stomp or be stomped. But I’m guessing people saying they can’t find groups for mutations aren’t in companies that are declaring anyway.

On my established server every day I see more returning and new players, and more companies forming. The “old” server feels quite vibrant. Sure, war loggers are sitting on bis gear and mountains of gold, but unlike IRL they tend to get bored and fade away, effectively removing their money from the economy, which doesn’t feel broken at all tbh. I don’t have gold cap to buy bis so I do mutations, gypsum casts, OPR chests, pvp tracks…there are tons of avenues to gear up now.

I played roughly 350-400 hours of the launch, and a 50-70hrs of beta. I wan’t fresh servers even tho I have almost all skills 200, and it’s simply because I want a server that’s not fucked up from launch with bugs, exploits, dupes and glitches. It can still happen to some degree, but the original launch was horrible and the game was not ready.

Fresh servers are for everyone that didn’t enjoy the leveling and never got past 30 or so, and people who want to come back to when the game is in a state where it should of been released, like now with all the changes they’ve done.

If you force me to play on servers with everyone who stuck it out I’m simply just not gonna play the game and do something else instead. I’m somewhat competitive, and I don’t find it enjoyable that the only way I could of kept up with the people playing the year was to force myself to play a game that honestly was garbage and not done. Now that being said I love NW and the Idea of the game, it just wasn’t ready for launch a year ago. And I wanna get back in but only if they do fresh servers.

So as I see it Fresh are mostly to get players back in rather than the players that have stuck with it, ofc some of the people who have stuck with it could be enticed to join fresh since fresh launches in almost every MMO is fun.

I am so tired of the classic/fresh start server nonsense. Its children complaining for something that will never fix what they want. Waste of resources and the buisinesses should outright ignore them.

Server health is no issue. They can always merge if they have to.
Just open up youtube and look what people say.
90% of comments are “not playing till fresh servers come out”

If you can’t understand that you do you.
But this game was on the verge of death and ANY returning player is valueable.
Only cause you guys accepted and played a dumbsterfire for a full year doesn’t mean others will adept to your standards. You’re not praiseworthy. And the game is only comming back cause people slowly are getting what they wanted from the game in the first place.

Fresh servers or no returning at all seems to be the attitude of most players.

The whole “wasting resources” is an insane delusional argument lol. The cost to run like 10 more servers will be less noted by amazon than you changing to more expensive toiletpaper with 1 layer more.

I quit playing when the game was an absolute shit-show.

All I did for weeks before I quit was log in each day and run in a giant zerg looting chests. It was the worst end game loop I’ve ever participated in.

There were dupes and econ ruining bugs / exploits popping up every few days.

Why would I want to play on a server with a year of that accumulated garbage in it? Even if its not true now that’s how I felt when I left.

Fresh start = a fresh playing field and a fresh economy.

I’d never come back to this game and play my old char on my old server. I haven’t even logged into it, just played a bit on ptr.

In general the desire for fresh start servers in competitive games with a decent pvp content is as follows.

For whatever reason(duping, mega companies, they quit and are coming back, etc) people are not on top. People want to be on top. People think if they have a fresh start server it will give them a chance to be on top.

It kinda does when most of the advantage is gold and riches and not GS/levels. Getting to end game is not what it used to.

I just got back my self. I have 1900 h + on my character but the last 3 days i cbf playing due to the economic on the server. Items selling for millions are just stupid.

Its a huge difference being a few days behind and a few months behind.

Luckily, there already have been a hand full of threads asking the same question with great answers. I’d do a quick search, might have solved your questions quicker.

Prediction aka speculation is not a solid basis to start an argument with. For all we know, AGS is working on solutions which will hit all servers. Using some reason, fresh start servers will likely have a better gold/price ratio to start with on items, due to missing inflation via company city income.

Sounds reasonably realistic apart from “same exact issues”, as mentioned above.

No, this opens up another whole issue and i am personally happy they only allow 1 character per server.
It does not make more sense to me at all. New players will also enjoy the whole fresh start server leaked events (twitch invovled), plus the spirit of everyone going through the level process with no economic advantages.

This whole thread sounds like you rather want same server alt characters, than actually understanding fresh start server arguments, but that is speculation on my part.

How is this any better on a “Legacy” server? I would think this is even a bigger issue there?

Fresh server has little to nothing about getting to max level fastest.

That would be a nice way to kill the game. AGS would loose thousands of players doing this.

This is so true. Also server health is like you say not a problem if it dont goes below 500 or so. Players are coming and going. I have no issue with players transfer from a fresh server but they should not open transfer to a fresh server in a long time (if ever). I have played of low pop servers before and it was truly no issue before it got to a few hundred players. Tbh i prefere a medium server with 1k pop over full server any day of the week.

Players are comming and going and from the look of the hype around fresh server im sure they can keep atleast one alive for 6 moths with no problem at all. Merge fresh servers with other fresh servers if they die.

Lets turn it around, those of you who are against fresh servers can you give any reason why you think fresh servers are a bad ide? No one is forcing you to start fresh.

The answer to your question is, what I’ve said numerous times before: Time. The only difference between new fresh players that are basically a babe in the woods vs vet players who know what to do, where to go to farm, and know what to do in order to bump themselves up to 60. If it’s a vet player just looking for a fresh start because they’re bored, more power to them, but if it’s a legit new player, they’re only going to encounter the very issues of the ‘legacy’ (old) servers. Meaning nothing has changed. It’s a heavy investment for no reason other than to watch the player count surge, then plummet back to a lower state because none of the issues have been fixed.

If they can fix the serious issues that has caused most players to leave, then sure, I’m up for them doing whatever, but just pressing for a green light on this without said serious tweaks is just a recipe of a disaster. No one wins in this case and history repeats itself.

So overall, it’s about people who have said experience that are going into the fresh server to exploit it, and without safety nets, it’s only going to cause issues all over again, at a faster pace than before.

Agree PvP servers will fix alot of problems.

Honestly the reason for fresh servers is just that a lot of people want them.
That’s literally it.
Remerging servers is not an issue. Allowing transfers out after 6months isn’t an issue.

People are willing to give this game another chance with fresh servers.
If that’s what gives people fun why does it matter to you guys not understanding it.
Your idea of fun might be reading a book on sunday evening while mine might be jumping out of a airplane at 10000feet. Both things have their benefits and potential drawbacks.
For me it’s fresh server or I won’t play at all.
And I play mmo’s for over 20 years. I’m well aware I’d climb and benefit way more from a already established server.

But for ME PERSONALLY, new servers are FUN. That’s it. And I’m damn sure not the only one with that notion. Idc about GS. Idc about having 5mil. Idc about wrecking noobs or to be first to hit 625 GS.
I just want a new server to start with new people without transfers.

Same thing with the PvP servers. God just give them to people. Let players enjoy themselves. If they won’t work you close them.
Saying there’s no point to burn “resources” like this is a joke for a company like amazon. God you could probably do a private server yourself like this if they’d allow it and you’d earn slightly above average. Them having 10more servers than now is equivalent of you upgrading your toiletpaper. Not to mention the potential benefits of more people trying the game or stuff out and actually paying for skins. And end up sticking around for longer

These same people plan on killing the fresh server. They will hit 60 in a day and gear up. Their advantage gonna hit your friends again even faster. Fresh servers doesn’t mean new players  This is absolute delusion. At current state of the game you can easily catch up on any 3k hours player in terms of gear for 1-2 builds but these people will still put more hours and practice more

Totally agree. And yet I’ll not start/keep playing on a legacy server : D
If they won’t open any. My friends knowing them won’t even reinstall.
I’ll log on my main. Do the Brimstone questline+ dungeon and likely never login again after a week^^ (well or maybe in 2+ years with the next hype, if there’s gonna be any).

Luckily they will open fresh servers with no transfers in so you guys can have fun :muscle: There’s something for everyone and ags is doing a good job with that

It’s just sad that a lot of players here are incredibly sensitive when it comes to wishes from the game/devs. It’s great they are listening. More transparency would be good tho
“AGS doesn’t owe u anything” “Stop being toxic” “Play what we have or deinstall” “We don’t need you here” “Returners gonna quit anyway within 3weeks”.
It’s such a loser mindset.
Especially longterm players should be overflowing with joy that people are willing to give this game any chance for whatever reason
They are willing to right now. And atm we definitely have more new/returning players than longtime players anyway. Making those people happy and potentially stay is key.
