What I dont see is anyone pointing to the obvious fact that this change was not required at all and does nothing but hurt lots of players and help nobody.
They chose to change the taxes back to the way they were, after a period where we were all having a good time playing the game and nobody was being hurt by the reduced rates and foremost nobody was really complaining about them at that level.
Town owners still made 100%.
All house owners paid 10%.
The game just created the other 90% out of thin air and it hurt nobody since the uber rich town owners do what rich people do IRL and didnt spend that gold. They sat on millions.
Inflation was not noticeable, and you can only buy so many crafts and gear for a company with a cap on players.
People claimed that somehow this was driving up the price of BiS gear, but I dont think any of them ever did the math on what it takes to craft that specific gear in gold and they just pointed to the high prices of things and said “big number bad”. Even a decent earring that I want to make it going to cost me 150k in mats and paying a crafter and now it wont even give me full benefit until I get my expertise all the way up.
From what I can tell uber companies gearing everyone up was rare anyway. The company leaders just kept the money after town improvements to themselves and a couple of buddies might have gotten some good gear out of it.
There are a ton of reasons not to change that status quo, and none that I can think of to swap back to the older rates which nobody enjoyed paying.
This is a game, meant to create enjoyment. This change is antithetical to that based on the feedback we are seeing, and it didnt need to happen. Nobody forced their hand and nothing was being broken the way it was for the last month and change.
