I think it would be a great idea to decrease the cost of housing in less popular territories. For example a tier 4 house in Weevers Fen could be 10k as opposed to Windsward or New Corsica which would be 20k.
This would help populate more towns instead of 500 people standing around WW and 3 in WF.
Edit: This is just a working idea, I guess the crux of the discussion would be whether or not we should have more perks for living in less populated / earning territories.
Most people don’t buy houses in some of those territories because they look terrible, or they’re just not useful as transport or crafting hubs.
Reekwater, Weavers, First Light are all interesting zones, but if you’re buying for aesthetics or utility, they’re not high on the list.
I was going to buy one in FL, because I liked the pirate theme of the town, but ended up in CK instead, because it’s convenient to FL and the lower zones, and the crafting station layout was better. The houses there also looked much better than the ones in FL, sadly.
My second one will likely be Brimstone, since that’s where the 60 action is, and I like the looks there. I use Restless as my inn recall to get me quickly to that side of the world, though I may buy a house in Mourningdale to make a triangle of sorts, and move the inn recall to EF or WW to give me a location in the center.
Dropping the prices in some of the out of the way or unpopular cities might encourage a few sales, but I don’t expect it to alter the current populations in a significant manner.
Ya I was thinking the same, but speaking for myself I am borderline wanting to pick aesthetic over utility and I think saving some cash would probably inch me over the line into buying a place in say Reekwater or Monarch Bluffs. It would also depend on how populated / well-kept the server is.
So ya maybe it’s probably just a working idea that can be added to or changed like more / other perks for living there.
It’s not really a price thing, it’s more that those areas never have crafting buffs up. I change out houses all the time if I am chasing buffs, and would honestly never get one in WF regardless of the price, even though I did grind faction tokens(and sometimes still do), since it is AFK to grind them in that area.
On my server both WW and Ebon are well known for having a few buffs up at the same time(both PvE and crafting) and keeping crafting stations at T5. Also, the layout of WW makes mass crafting a breeze.
As popular as the upgrades were in the patch, I’m expecting to see the other settlements get a facelift at some point. A visual upgrade, and perhaps a revamped layout to make getting to the crafting stations a bit more streamlined would go a long way to making those areas more popular for housing.
And as TXdude mentioned, maybe an upgrade in settlement leadership is in order. If the current company is not doing something to make the settlement attractive to crafters, etc… then someone else should declare and replace them.
Ya for sure, it would take more than cheaper housing to attract more people to make it their main territory, I’m thinking maybe making upgrades and buffs cheaper as well if the percentage of gold is lower for owning these less sought after territories. It’s just like real life property and expenses are cheaper than say coastal towns.
