Housing is too expensive

I’ve invested a ton of hours in the game and farmed a huge amount of resources and can barely afford 1 medium house. No chance I can afford another one if I’m not the owner of a settlement.
If players that spend this much time in the game can’t even afford houses, casual players have no chance of getting AND paying taxes for one. That every 5 days as well.
They have successfully made a game that simulates real life where only the players that invest all their time can afford stuff, and even that just barely.

doing all starting zones and all zones leading up to restless shore got me 22k gold. including gold from killing mobs

It isn’t just the initial cost of housing but also the taxes. Every. Five. Days. No way casual players can keep that up to get enough gold. And I play a LOT of hours and between crafting fees and repair fees, etc. and the fact that you can’t earn much gold, well, its just poorly designed.

You can play the market quite easily, for instance in weavers Fen there’s no hemp, but a lot of board quests require fibers, stock up on fibers and sell them on that market for a nice profit. In everfall fibers go for maybe 0.20g and weavers anywhere from 1-3g per fiber, no one wants to fast travel or run across the map to maybe get a a couple fibers so they just buy them.

Another farm is motes, you can find them all over, they’re needed for cutting gems, if you get 5 motes and turn it into a wisp, and 4 wisps you can get an essence which easily go for 50-200g, heck motes go for 0.80g each too.

Even stone sells quite high in restless shores since it’s very scarce near the town; just have to find items that are low in supply but high in demand and your set

I have been looking into getting a house at long last having made enough gold, so I thought… only to discover I can’t afford one because of taxations.

I wish that I could sell more stuff through the Trade hub but that’s a bust - for my server at least. The stuff that sells well are the things I need to use to craft with. The stuff I craft I tend to salvage because it isn’t worth the cost to put it in to Trade. As for shopping the areas to learn what’s wanted where and try to provide it, the Trade is overrun with everyone doing this. It starts to feel ridiculous when you know that as soon as you undercut someone hoping to make a sale - someone else is going to undercut you.

It’s a dog eat dog kinda life… Just like real life.

I play games to escape the weight of real life. I don’t want my games to emulate it.

One of the reasons that I wanted to play New World was owning a house. Too bad that it will likely never happen for me because I simply won’t be able to afford it. The idea of always being broke and half the time locked out of my new in-game home simply doesn’t appeal. I don’t want to feel inadequate and homeless in a game!

The cost of purchasing a house is fine.

The tax is insanely high and whoever thought it was a good idea has clearly never tried to earn gold.

You actually earn a ton of gold by playing the game, so the taxes are not an issue.
At 60 i have 2 houses with lower taxes thanks to territory standing an i make profit daily even without selling crafted stuff. Enough profit to sponsor war efforts for the company, enough profit to just give away orichalcum tools to company members who hit 60 etc. Gold is literally everywhere, everything gives you gold or things you can sell for gold because you do not need them now.

Why does everyone want games to be so easy and not rewarding? The game is brand new you just haven’t figured out how to make money. So lets change the entire game for everyone because its to hard for you. Got it.

There shouldn’t be any taxes. Maybe that’s too softcore for some of you, I am sorry, but if you manage to get 10k Gold (or 20k later) you deserve to keep it. Otherwise with those taxes it feels like a job, not an accomplishment.

How is it rewarding when you pay 20k and then still have to pay taxes? That’s a neverending story. It would be rewarding if you spend those 20k and then just have it. Done. Accomplishment.

i don’t even want a house because of those taxes. It doesn’t feel like a reward, more like an additional duty, like a job I have to do, just to maintain what I thought I already accomplished.

It’s a game. And we should treat it as that. Some of you make it seem like it is some second life simulation …

But how do you expect to make money then? Because you’re holding the keys to your house right there - gather VALUABLE stuff, sell it on the market. Trade your time for someone else’s gold.

Right now you’re investing all that value into your crafting profession. That is a choice.

@Ohfor - I address you because you quoted me.

Yes. it is a choice, because I like crafting. So you are saying I need to stop crafting to make more gold so I can have a house?

I posit why can’t I have both? A house and be able to craft what I want?

I see it like this: It is okay for me to want to craft in a game that offers crafting and want a house in a game that offers housing without having to spend waaaay too much of my time in the game - hence making it more of a job.

It isn’t a job. It’s a game. If I can’t afford the housing because I want to craft, I feel something is wrong with the game, not with me. I have a limited amount of time I can spend in the game. That’s life. I am not saying I want everything handed to me, I don’t mind working for the gold. But I want the accomplishments to be within my reach without sacrificing the activities I want to enjoy.

More gold from quests would help a lot. If I am to pay “Property Taxes” for an imaginary house in an imaginary land then giving us more gold would seriously help. Or get rid of the Property Taxes so that we can afford the houses. I mean, seriously, what’s the point behind the taxation? Who is benefitting?

I am a Casual Gamer, I admit this freely. I have the right to be a casual gamer.

I am considering quitting the game. Yes, Its beautiful. Yes it has an engaging story. Yes, I love the crafting. Yes I want to own a house. However… If I must sacrifice to have one or the other. That is NOT fun for me. I believe the games I play should be enjoyable for me as that is my primary purpose in playing games. You may have a differing opinion, that is your right. I respect your right to your opinion. However I wish to point out that this is a game. Games are supposed to be fun and an escape from real life for the majority of people playing them.

We can’t all be hardcore, most of us simply do not have the time.

To sum up: I feel I have a right to my opinion. Property Taxes are ridiculous and I cannot afford them. Crafting while owning a house should be doable and okay. If I cannot enjoy the game I see no reason to continue wasting time in playing it. Therefore I speak up and let my opinion be known - in hopes that we can find a neutral ground where casual and hardcore gamers can have fun.

I don’t want to quit. I like the game. But not being able to afford a house is somewhat of a deal breaker for me. <— This is my point.

With outpost rush being reanabled it’s easy to make gold. This in turn will make things on TP sell higher meaning more gold for everyone. Give it a couple weeks and you’ll find you’ll easily be able to pay taxes on your houses. I played 5 games of outpost rush yesterday and I paid all 3 of my houses for the 5 days.

i think you do something basically wrong.
i craft and gather all day and have 3 houses.

btw. you dont loose a house if you are not paying the taxes. you just loose the teleport and the trophy buffs. so its not that bad if you cant pay it everytime.
but seriously why do you need a house? its endgame content for me and you should bring up your professions first and earn money with them before you start with try hard housing.

with this outpost rush a ton of money comes for the server.
we played a bit today and needed about 30 minutes for a match. we got over 300 coins everytime. thats really ok and if you play 1 or 2 matches a day you can pay the taxes for your house.

Try owning 2 homes LOL. If you own a home here, you have to work to pay those weekly taxes. I recommend you buy a small cheap house for 2500 and hope you just pay 200G per week, which is what I pay for my 1st home.

The 2nd home was more expensive and weekly tax is 600G so yeah there is a big difference.
