Yeah… that’s why you are doing server backup before each major release. I had never had to rollback my work because It was properly tested, but still after 15 years in business I would never commit major update without backing up data first.
It’s the first one they do… so… EU is in the hands of God and the AGS’s janitor.

That’s just saying that the 7 day rollback screenshot was a fake, not that there won’t be a rollback!
They are now contacting every player affected, offering them another 100k with a “if you dont tell, we dont tell” note.

I hope there is no one in here who actually believes that AGS has the capacity to “rollback” something at this point.
What ever “rollback” they’re gonna announce within the next 24 hours is not gonna be a fix for the situation. Reverting gold doesn’t do anything atm.
People maxed professions during this time…People cleared the market during this time. They generated gold upon the bugged gold, traded the bugged gold, sold items, farmed, killed got loot, sold some of that. Like…
its done… The market is DONE after this.
Whatever they come up with, its not gonna please anyone, and it will probably come with another bugg.

…Retrieving gold, following it to cancel transfert, cancel buy order, restoring item to sell state… Imagine poor dev looking at all operations in a bunch of backend logs, reading every lines to find the correct message…

Snapshots? maybe I can snapshot my world instances, but what about Athena, SQS, or any of the other myriad services that this game likely depends on
Imagine we’re all, ultimately, versioned flat-files in some obscure S3 location, because that’s a lot closer to the reality than this just being some RDS snapshot/restore.
no one has mentioned a rollback. the only reason there is people talking about it is this fake picture…
they wont rollback because they know they will lose there jobs and everyone that doesnt want to grind back all the shit they lost will quit…

in optimal way… all EU servers are using a separated database from other regions, so there is a table contains world names, world sets and IDs so one database for every eu server then
alter database new_world modify_name = new_world_fcked;
restore database new_world from database snapshot = new_world_snapshot_24112021.bak;
(could be wrong just from head, however you need to kill every services to alter database, but since the worlds are just in maintenance mode, im guessing the worldnames are set in static file, not in database what is just dumb)

We have different way of using chars in currency values. Most likely they are using some localized currency fields on servers which is a big no no. You should learn about it six months into your first job.
This is there first job so what your saying is give em 6 months

I don’t even care about people getting extra coin, its not there fault, plenty others in the game have coin cap and maxed skills, let them be and open up again, few months from now it wont even matter
What has this got to do with network? All the character data is likely stored in databases and if they don’t have backup of those databases, to rollback to, then I don’t know what level of incompetence that shows. Specially since AWS is offering mechanism for both database backups and restoring from said backups.
bro it doesnt matter now they lost 82% of there player base. and that is just about to rise to around 88% after today…

According to Steam tracking something like 800k players have left
the figure is at 82% atm its like 800 left and 970 peak.
Steam have started giving out Refunds for new world now btw even if you have X amount of hours played.
