Been back recently and it seems OPR is constantly one sided on Valhalla and it has not been a great experience for a returning player. Currently 575 GS/Expertise so the grind is slow doing opr and what not alongside daily dungeons.
Yep, OPR is the same as it always.
I’ve played on Valhalla>Maramma>Orun>Eden>Castle of steel and finally back to Valhalla, I’ve also clocked in somewhere around 500+ OPR games. On Valhalla, I’d say about 2/3 of games are one sided stomps, and 1/3 are somewhat balanced, just from my experience.
It also depends on time of day. I find games to be somewhat balanced from 8AM-11AM ET(probably too early for sweats/discord comps to be running), and from 7PM-10PM ET (wars are running, less sweats can queue up together). The GS scaling in the Brimstone patch will marginally address this issue, but we need grouped and non-grouped OPR (2 separate queues), along with cross server, for it to be truly balanced.
Side note, when you are 625 and Full BIS (or close to it), the stomp games are still very enjoyable/playable, even on the losing team. I can still top 5 and get plenty of kills consistently on the losing side of a stomp, but I normally have to avoid the zerg to do so.
One extra tip- If you queue up for a game, and instantly get an invite, DECLINE THAT QUEUE. You are likely queuing into a one sided stomp onto a team that started with low players, or had players quit. If a queue pops with the player count at 8/40 or lower, it is likely safe to take (more than likely the game just started, not a long running game). Finally, if your queue pops with between 32-36 players in the queue, it is also “safe” to take that invite.
I find that consistently queuing for "fresh’ games leads to better results.
Very good tips and yeah i do notice that too around those times that it can be a good run. Ill try the tips you have listed about those low count/high count games. I wish i could find people for pre mades but my friends wont return until Brimstone
On Eld we tend to have pretty balanced matches during primetime.
They can be pretty lopsided if you que during the day.
Last i played on opr on yggdrazil was 2 months ago. I was a healer with a gs of 520 (i play mostly as a flagged pve) and my team had more numbers. But from what i remember was a decently matched game at the start. I guess some people quit or disconnected but the syndicate was holding their ow. For a long time and we were evenly matched contending the middle was a constant trade off from wave to wave. I think the tipping point was our team including myself would go for crafting mats and build siege equipment over the rigges and they would just go in for the quickest melee kills. So they just left after being out gunned i suppose.
Is always been like this. 9/10 matches come down to the healers. There are exceptions such as having too many bow players on one team not fighting on the point, or having coordinated groups of bruisers dominating, etc. But most of the time severely one-sided matches occur because that team has 5x the healers.
I don’t really have solution for this but I do know that I’d rather wait in a longer queue if it meant more balanced games.
Maybe cross-server opr would mitigate this?
on AARU it’s insanely balanced
Like we start the game with 400to 50 and then still lose. All the time like that besides the occasional full 1sided match. Which I honestly don’t mind either since it’s free points for a very fast game xD
Shhh the healers will hear you
They need to add group/non-group OPR queue’s for sure. And that needs to happen ASAP. If either queue takes too long after that, cross-server OPR will fix that one.
Ideally there should be 3 queue’s, for solo, 2-3 people, and 4-5 people, but I’m not gonna worry too much about that for now. I just want to be able to solo queue and get random teams, and will gladly give up playing with 1-2 buddies to get that.
Lots of musket hit squads, it’s just frustrating cuz you can’t do anything when they lock on you and you don’t know where they hit you from.
I’ve found that the matches are mor balanced in late evening on dry tree. The premades are 1/2 on each team and there aren’t 20bows playing.
Earlier on in the day I think there are a larger proportion of players just playing for umbral, gypsum or grinding pvp. And because of the scoring system, the easiest way to get 3k score is spam bow attacks.
If they could change the scoring system and improve team selection it would be great.
Interesting, what does hitting 3k score do? I know you need like 500 to get rewards
the 3k score is to garantee the 2000 pvp xp, otherwise you only get a gypsum when you lose at 500 score.
