How it felt like entering the new zone Brimstone Sands

It literally explains what quests you need when you start new world today. That’s how I learned about it.

Are you referring to this?

It says “To access the main storyline quests in Brimstone Sands”, not “to access the zone”, being able “to enter Brimstone Sands” or whatever.

And on the page before that it says “journey to the deserts of Brimstone Sands, OR start the new Main Story quest” basically indicating you don’t need to do the new quests to enter. You can choose.

It’s nice they give a hint on the quest though… I guess :joy:

Well I figured to do the quest first from that info. I guess they need to better understand their target audience.

Next year anniversary it would be fun if they show us how many “forgot sun lotion” and were killed by sunburn at the gates of Brimstone Sands. I wonder if Brimstone can get more kills than Carekeeper.

It’s easy enough to figure out and plenty people managed to do so without dying upon entry. It’s also easy to point and laugh at those who didn’t figure it out first and did have an unexplained close encounter with fatal radiation.

That’s not really the point though, the design was just lacking a couple of breadcrumb pointers that could have made the experience a lot more seamless and avoided some unnecessary player frustration.

I’d say that any reasonable person, whether you figured it out in a nanosecond or had to be helped through it, could stand back and look at this experience and admit to themselves that it could have been a little better put together.

It’s not a big deal, there’s no need for a lot of fuss and name calling, it’s just a bit of feedback that the design could have been better.

I’d provide similar feedback on the quests that are bottlenecking people on the main story, the Siege of Brimstone and The Manticore quests. It’s not a big deal, but it’s important feedback for AGS that they not design quests like that into the start of a new zone that we’re all going to enter at once. It was an unnecessary own goal that could have been avoided with some slightly different design. It won’t matter once things have calmed down but it mattered on release, so feedback provided and let’s move on.

There’s a lot of fun to be had in the zone once you get around these few frustrations but first impressions have been a little dented, and it’s through avoidable self-inflicted design decisions, so this kind of feedback is necessary and I am sure AGS will want to hear it.

I absolutely LOVED that in the game
Like seriously. I LOVE that they dont give u EVERYTHING right into your face as if you’re a 5year old. It’s literally what makes games like Elden Ring or Sekiro fun.
They don’t treat you like an utter idiot

Also @others
You don’t have to complete the tempest mainstory. I haven’t yet and I’m flying through Brimstones atm.
I did clear Tempest before already tho while not having the mainstory that far. But it seems not to be a requirement. You just go to Ebonscale and accept the quest there.

I didn’t know about the quest needed to enter the new zone so I just tried to run and DEAD! I was like WTF good one AGS.

We’ve been laughing really hard at the gate watching people die abruptly. This gate is MvP.

Not sure what some are talking about. I have completed the mql up to Tempest Heart but have not completed the expedition quest nor the 2nd that goes with it. I have entered the new area and completed approximately 20 of the main quests. Right now, it’s like doing a WT… hardly anything to do but follow the groups, kill everything, pillage the supply boxes, and move on to the next quest.

This was my understanding. Just have to do the sunblock quest to get in, not complete the Tempest’s Heart expedetion. Correct?

Only need to be level 60 and complete “A Selfless Nature”

Perhaps they are referring to the quest line option to do things solo? All I have is the group option, never bothered doing Tempest and I ran into the same invisible wall that the OP is discussing.

That said, I agree with the OP that there should be some visible barrier or whatnot.

Edit: While trying to find a group for Tempest–per the info in this thread-- someone messaged me and said that you do NOT have to do Tempest as a prerequisite. You just need to be able to do a quest in Shattered Mountain: Strider in the Sands.

Doing that quest now and it appears to have worked fine.

Correction: While trying to find a group for Tempest, someone messaged me and said that you do NOT have to do Tempest as a prerequisite. You just need to be able to do a quest in Shattered Mountain: Strider in the Sands.

There probably should something to give you a clue that you’re doing something wrong. Like apply a burning to the character, show fire on them, dot equal to a % of total HP per second that increases over time. Give the player a chance to realize and get out.

Maybe even a message that says “you must complete X quest before entering here” or something.

The account of your experience isn’t invalid like some of the people here would suggest with their criticism. I think doing BS this way keeps bots out and that’s good but things could have been more clear for people that haven’t been watching all the PTR content.

The clue should be that you go in a new zone but there aren’t any quests on your map in that zone, but yes you are right it should be damage over time(5-10 seconds to turn back) and a message on screen.

Getting into Brimstone is soooo easy. Its awesome you have to dol quests first.

Yeah. I just took that one quest. Lol. Its good fun too

Why does the zone even have attunment to enter is the real question

Indeed, but only once someone had directed me to the correct quest in GC instead of trying to tell me I needed expeditions.

Effectively they have put a pointless death and a trivial fetch quest in the way of simply walking through the gate which servers little purpose but to annoy.
