For this solo content u dont need even weapon, you can just lose mobs agro… so why even consider this ? xd

Its ok couse its range build. So you can avoid dmg from mobs while doing some. But its only about open world. Nothing crazy but its playable.
Its sub optimal in almost every situation in open world PVE so when you grind enough that time efficiency becoems impotant, you get relegated back to melee.
Tbh u can just wear Vg and use Void Blade imo the best weapon for pve… life steal, rends, weakness…

Do what you want in PvE. It is the Gated PvE groups that only know how to play one formula that will care what you use, otherwise use what is fun to you. I believe unless there are bugs all general resistances for arch-types have been removed for weapon types.
It isn’t the most looked for class and its weapons have been double up resisted by arch-type resistances and mutation resistances almost making no weapon usable by mage in the past. (Void mutation in Laz where they were already Fire resist 40% too. Find weapons to use…)
So mage in mutation is just useless because of that high resistance, that’s how to kill a class :x

Well, I tried to give some mages a chance in higher mutations. But its pretty obv, that melee is the meta for mutations.
At least the “usual” mage build “fire / ice” lacks utility and damage and they “cant” fight mobs being solo.
Atm we have Depths mutated and for the boss fight Archdeacon the mages always died in the 2nd phase on platforms and made it WAY harder for the group.
And then there is the problem with the resistances, yeah… If I create groups for higher mutations, I skip on mages.
Iam a tank and I want spears, greataxes and hatchets. Rapier and GS are fine, too. And maybe a bow for corrupted mutations…

OP does not talk about that mobs or mutations.
Use FT and fire Ball, rest skills are meh xd burnout with gear perk to boost fireball damage. Thats all xd
I was a mage in open world PVE. Normally I played with friends, and I didn’t have any issues. The problems was when I went out solo. I really struggle with elite areas without a group to support me. Currently I am str melee build and I don’t have those same issues.

so, yeah, that not only includes mutations, but it IS about mutations
and no, no one wants a mage (fire/ice/void) in their team
in SOME cases ppl run void as a secondary just for debuffs than switch back to the main weapon (hammer, hatchet, spear, whatever)
I’m str melee too actually with a lot of life stealing so I can do elite zone solo without any problem, but I thought that a mage can also do it with eventually a bit more difficulty. All videos I can find are 1yrs + or exclusively PvP so that’s why I try to find mages here

You will not see any difference + with Ig and Ice Tomb its easier to do scarabs chest runs or lose agro, u just go tomb take 2-3 shots from mobs, quit tomb loot chest… Ice Tomb also resets acid resistance so u dont need acid gear… but I also use this powder ? It increase resistance for all conditions and cost nothing 30g for 20 min buff ?
Go try it and see for yourself. Dont take advice from forum keyboard warriors.
Depending on your skill level. If you are on point with your dodges you might be fine. Personally, I suck with timing a dodge, I am better with a shield. I never liked the VG too much as a mage due to the lack of a block. That doesn’t mean you can’t use it for healing. I ran with FS and IG, gameplay wise it was fun, although I never felt like I was doing the most damage in the group.
General open world PvE, mage is suboptimal but you can complete everything with it.
Then some guy with a 300 str greatsword comes by and plows through everything twice as fast with just left clicks.
