How the hell can an Amazon company have trouble with servers?

I would understand almost any issue from a new studio producing a brand new MMORPG. Bugs, low framerates, poor balance, bad community management… but for the love of God, NEARLY A THIRD OF THE INTERNET IS RUNNING ON AWS, and Amazon Games couldn’t get someone to build functioning servers?? HOW


I bet the answer is money. They knew what kind of resources they would need from running closed beta with the same exact issues and knowing how many copies were sold. They have a lot of talented engineers. I don’t believe they didn’t predict this would happen. Most likely they didn’t want to maintain too many servers in the long.
