How to fix the Light Armor - Heavy Armor imbalance

60% ABS (Damage Absorption) cap fucks over Heavy Armor

The average Light Armor build mitigates anywhere from 35% to 42% depending on the Phys/Elem numbers on armor.

Shirking Fort gives 20% Fortification.

That means cloth armor can easily have 55% to 62% damage mitigation when shirking fort is used without adding gems.

The fact that Heavy armor has on average 50% to 55% ABS means they can only effectively gain 5% ABS total and anything passed that is, “Rend Resistance,” due to the nature of how Fortify, ABS and Rend work.

My suggestion is…

Cap Damage Absorption based on Equipload

→ Heavy Armor - 70% ABS

→ Medium Armor - 60% ABS

→ Light Armor - 50% ABS

This does not negate any stat stacking, it just changes the scale of Effective Damage Mitigation and Rend Resistance based on Equipload.

Hmm.

@50% fortify, max total mitigation (not including BaseDamage reduction and attacker weapon matching armor rating equivalent) are

Heavy High Split: 75%
Heavy Balanced: 72.73%

Medium High Split: 71.07%
Medium Balanced: 68.95%

Light High Split: 64.42%
Light Balanced: 62.59%

Just for numbers

The god of all things combat has spoken.

The proposed change would make those numbers turn into…

Heavy High Split: 85%
Heavy Balanced: 82.73%

Medium High Split: 71.07%
Medium Balanced: 68.95%

Light High Split: 54.42%
Light Balanced: 52.59%

based on raising Heavy 10% and lowering Light 10%? I’m sure it’s not as straight-forward, but the principal remains.

@70%

Heavy High Split: 84.21%
Heavy Balanced: 82.84%

@60%

Medium High Split: 76.85%
Medium Balanced: 75.16%

@50%

Light High Split: 64.42%
Light Balanced: 62.59%

Now this makes much more sense for a Heavy → Medium → Light damage mitigation split.

If the gap is wayyyy too much and causes Heavy to immediately become meta, then it could be changed to 55%/60%/65%.

The current damage mitigation balance is ridiculous.
Heavy to Light comparison:

  • Gain +11% Dmg mitigation

But lose

  • 20% Damage
  • 60% Healing
  • Significantly worse dodge.
