HWM (Expertise) Not Tracked Properly

  • What is your character name in New World: Syrus Wrathborn
  • What server/world did you experience your issue on: Opona
  • Describe the issue you are experiencing: I’ve been tracking my HWM drops for the past 2 weeks to make sure I got it high enough for this patch. After logging in today, I noticed that the numbers shown on the banners next to my armor do not match what I’ve been getting as drops. Last night I had a 597 headpiece drop from Eternal Pool, but the banner next to my head is only showing 590. I also had 591 boots and it is showing 590, my chest is properly matching, and my arms are actually 2 higher than what I’ve recorded.

I found it to be strange that it does only show 590, that would mean in 2022 when the new system is put into place, you won’t actually be able to receive the full 600 GS benefits and it would be capped at 595 which is the average between the two.

  • Is this a bug or an exploit: Bug
  • (if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay: lowered my HWM score on gear compared to what I should have.
  • (if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue: I was not.
  • (if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced: See Below
  • What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced: N/A

This is a side-by-side of what my watermarks should be vs what they are showing in game.

I can confirm all my armor is 600 and shows 590. this feels intentional but can’t confirm that, @Luxendra

I guess it’s a Bracket System as before. 590 is the highest bracket you can reach at least it was before. Allows you to drop items 591-600.

I have the same problem… nothing goes higher than 590 apparently. even if i loot it just now.

I get that but expertise should show as 600 no? for when scaling comes in 2022, idk

that means max equipable gear other than grandfathered gear pre 1.2 would be 595 max

Here it goes…

People, cap has ALWAYS been 590. This isn’t a bug.

No. The scaling would still work just fine because 600 is a loot bracket from 590. There wouldn’t be downscaling.

No. It would be 600, because it wouldn’t change the bracket it’s in…

I get that but Expertise should be marked at 600 in the inventory.

That would require hardcoding a conditional on top of the tooltip which would be messy coding IMO. People should just understand what 590 means. We have enough “spaghetti code” as is.

But the cap is 590… are you sure you get it?

Also, and I found this out the hard way, opening a gypsum-crafted box for a slot that is already at 590 does NOT increase it above 590. :frowning:

I don’t think I remember reading anywhere that it was going to stop at 590, if I’m mistaken, I’d love to know where they did. But it seems like a bit of an oversight to not mention in the notes that you can only go up to 590 and anything over 590 is discarded.

It’s always been 590…

The cast forces a bump to happen which in the 590 case means it just gives you a roll between 590-600, it’s not wasted per say, just not efficient.

Moaning without actually reading the other posted articles. Top work.

It woulf be nice if a dev would take 30 second to clarify

Here’s the dev post from a few days ago.
