On launch day I automatically got put into EU Central Rocabarra Vanaheim Xi (labeled english), turns out it’s one of the unofficial official Russian servers! I can’t speak a word of Russian!
I’m fine with it as I’ll just change over to a different server when the character transfer becomes available… but what happens if I join an unofficial official foreign language server then?!
I suggest you monitor the global chats of the servers and if its for example ONLY Russian (like in my case) you change the label on the server details.
To make a long story short Amazon ignores russians for the most part. There are polish servers, spanish servers, german servers, but russians don’t get their own label. More than that, cyrillics, which is a necessity for russians to communicate is not only unsupported, but if you enter the game with russian layout on your keyboard you get all sorts of graphic glitches and artifacts.
What happened to you, is that you landed on a server one of the large russian gaming communities to go to chose to do not interfere with everybody else. There are several of those - Alastor, Hellheim, Hyberborea are ones of most Russian servers.
Russians would also like to have some servers to be marked as EN/RU as you suggest, but so far we seem to be ignored for the most part.
I understand completely. English isn’t my first language (it’s actually some African language you have never heard of). Trust me I’m not blaming the Russian community, you guys have taught me a lot of cool dirty words.
The Russian community is massive and you guys paid for the game like anyone else. For a customer demographic larger than any French/Polish/etc. the smart and ethical business decision would be to accommodate one of their largest communities of paying customers and the side effect of that change would be to prevent poor lost souls who’s first language isn’t even English to be able to understand some people in an mmo hahaha
