Nope. I just created it then got a random company invite and accidentally accepted it.

I have this same issue, can not re-create, name is taken, and cant rejoin
You can’t leave your company unless another governor is appointed. I can’t even deny a company invite because I keep receiving that pop-up, so this shouldn’t have happened to you.

Maybe a bug. If that’s what happened and it’s not supposed to, you could try posting it in the bug category.
As far as a fix for you I’d imagine there is nothing that can be done if someone else took the name already.
Lost mine as well and tried for half an hour to recreate it thinking maybe the name would eventually release… and it never did. With global lock and having to log into EU to reserve them company names should have been given the same treatment as characters… with maybe a 24 hour reserve to deal with long ques.
