I am 50 years old and have the reflexes of a bot

I’m in my 40s
I’m not saying git gud, I’m saying don’t fool yourself into thinking some morbidly obese monster-addict has reaction times that are so much faster than yours that you can’t win in whatever you choose to do; that it’s much more likely that you just don’t care about winning as much.

When I was in my 40’s I was able to do what I used to do in my 20’s…
I am much older than in my '40s, and I can tell you… (show you what is in your future)… You will NOT be able to do things because your body won’t let you… It’s NOT a choice…

But you will believe what you want to believe.

You will get hit hard when you are actually older… hopefully you will remember this.

PS… I have a disability, my hands cant do things… its not a choice, its a disability. So for me its less to do with age.

mid 50’s here too… i go all tanky, but i suck as a tank for dungeons because i rarely do them and don’t care for pvp.

I probably won’t remember this; old age and all, you know.

Thread’s not about disabilities, it’s about a 50-year old’s concern he can’t keep up. I know your crystal ball’s already told you this but I will continue to believe he can, if he wants to.

Again, as a young one.
If I have some1 upfront telling me they aren’t that young but they will be doing their best I would man up and carry the fck out of that expedition.

Ways you can always help: empower and rend.
Literally having a void gauntlet, dropping empower area and hitting 3 times with void blade means 30% extra dps for every1.
And you pressed 4 keys.
Keep that in mind.

I see many people just wandering around looking busy just randomly hitting without stacking passives(hatchet players know only light attacks and berserk) . I would much rather have some1 enabling the rest of the party.

Agreed.

In my 50s, female, and if anything, my reflexes are much faster now than when I started many many years ago (I’d like to get my hands on some F Zero X to see if I could beat my times, which even back then were nearing European records). Years of gaming have honed my reflexes, I notice that everywhere in my life, gaming is actually a very worth while activity to keep your reflexes trained, they are beginning to apply this in therapy even for stroke victims, as far as I am aware.

But as you said, it’s more about not caring, and this is not even age related. In GW2 I have won solo encounters with my trapper druid, simply because for a brief moment I actually put focus into doing so. It’s just whether I want to invest myself to that degree. If I want to, I can, but most times I just don’t care enough.

Disability is different however, but that has nothing to do with age.

Can’t say what it will be like hitting 60s, not there yet, maybe there is some fall off, maybe not, but not in the 50s, I don’t think.

For the OP - as with any gamer, find the set-up you enjoy most and which flows with you. There is no one fits all approach. If a game style bores you, then you won’t excel at it. My druid trapper build in GW2 has been a niche build, few played it, but for me it’s been perfect, everything comes together and makes sense to me, and that’s when you can succeed with a set-up <3

I have used and been in wars with every weapon in the game, all the weapons are fun. But right now the meta is Great Axe and Hammer. For pvp the faction gear has awesome rolls that are pvp oriented. The gear score on the highest tier faction gear is a bit low at 520 but the way gear score scales in the game it really doesn’t matter you will not be at a disadvantage. Since the weapons scale with Strength there are items you can get from the faction vendors to change the attribute points on the armor to Strength or Strength/Con at the armoring stations (do this step before you slot any gems into the armor or it will salvage any gems you slot into the armor). I prefer Onyx gems at the highest tier you can get depending on your budget for your armor, as a Great Axe and Hammer player you will be taking alot of physical damage and Onyx mitigates that. I would do a Heavy Helmet, Heavy Chest, Medium Gloves, Light Legs and Medium Foot pieces, this will give you a 22.9 weight build allowing you to mitigate damage at the highest amount for a medium build allowing you to still have mobility. The game has been out for some time now so go into the Trading Post and find the highest Gear Score Great Axe and Hammer you can with decent perks on them (Enchanted, Keen, Keenly Empowered, Keenly Fortified), throw in Malachite or Opal or Emerald gems. Same with jewelry, find a few pieces that will help cool downs, 1 piece i recommend having Refreshing Toast on it to give a 28% cooldown to health potions. I prefer Constitution jewelry since i can use it with any build.

Go fight some enemies solo in like Ebonscale Reach with the build once you have done some pve to level the weapons up. They are tough but not too bad. The Corrupted Spear enemies have pretty cool fight mechanics to practice timing dodges and counters on.

If you have any questions you can message me, good luck!

My kids who are now full grown are all into PvP but im too slow and cause them problems trying to protect me.
Oh well, won’t stop me playing but Pve is more my speed now.

Going on 66, and have been gaming for decades, even before Pong. Sure, aging eventually takes its toll on all of us, but most of us do the best we can. I admire the younger gamers who take the time to share their time with us “older folks”. I have learned a lot from many of them, and look forward to the day I learn how to play PvP. I’m currently at level 57 in the game, and could not have gotten there without the help of many wonderful players, young and old alike. If you see JADC in-game, give me a shout and maybe we can game together. I might be old and slow, but that beats not being a gamer any day of the week. Cheers, my fellow gamers, enjoy your day.
<<Edit…I’m on the US East server called Ohonoo for anyone who wants to hook up. Sure would be nice if there was a Company for us older, young at heart players…,>>

I just turned 55, but in my own defense my Ex-wife says I’m really immature for my age.

I just use a GA and roll my face back and forth over the keyboard.

It’s the meta or something.

haahhaha, yea healing in the back will work, you get shot by musket, thy go first for healers :stuck_out_tongue:

I am a bit younger but even I’ve noticed my reflexes and reactions starting to “slow” a little bit here and there.

In my opinion, as long as you have fun with the PvP, then it doesn’t matter your age. Yeah, you’ll come across the “hardcore PvPer” now and again but they can be forgotten in minutes whereas the genuinely fun PvP fights are the ones to remember. Though I’ve only done PvP a few times and it was fun.

Though there are a few articles e.g. https://theculturetrip.com/europe/sweden/articles/meet-the-silver-snipers-swedens-senior-esports-team/ where players 60+ are competing in esports, not saying that’s something you should try and compare to, though the article was from 2017, I’d consider that pretty recent.

51 years old here, and I was slow and crap when I was young. Age hasn’t improved matters. I usually serve in the “siege” team in wars on my server - setting up, operating and reloading siege weapons and shooting with a musket to suppress enemy siege weapons or snipe their back line. Old age and treachery beats youth and reflexes.

i got called “coward” by some asian teenager for not being flagged while gathering. 22 years ago (long before this t**t was even born) i shot everyone down in q2 instagib. i am having trouble zipping up my pants after a pee nowadays

In my 70’s, arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and heart condition. Still gaming but reflexes are rubbish compared to when younger, fingers are stiff and sometimes don’t work at all. For the “get gud” folks, I would love to see you when you’re my age…impossible as I will be long gone, but remember all the wise words here from oldies…you WILL be old one day and your body WILL start deteriorating, even if your mind doesn’t. That said…keep on gaming it’s the best thing to keep your brain agile.

I always play healer, but find it most frustrating and stressful in this game, mainly because healing relies on someone actually being where they were when you cast it and in the circle. I much prefer the direct healing or large aoe healing of other games.

PS. I just love the jumping puzzles in GW2, now they really get your senses working.
@Lady-Hexx I tried the foot mouse thingie, and really couldn’t get on with them.
