I don't get what this game is about

Severmove when they come out. Not now

I’m definitely in the category of 1-2 hours a day. I’ve managed to hit level 28 since launch. The guys that are grinding to 60 already are definitely not the norm. My main point of contention in MMOs is people are too concerned with x level or getting from point a to point b as fast as possible. Enjoy the journey not just the destination.

People want this game to be good, they are begging for a game other than WoW.

This game prolly came out at the most perfect time in MMO history tbh, the only reaason so many bought it is bc its cheap and they are looking for something other than wow.

Endwalker, games just dont come out with new stuff in a month, Endwalker will come out and kill and destroy the population of many servers due to how empty the game is at the top end at the moment. Amazon is new to mmos, they dont have 10 dungeons and raid bosses and ways to deal before november =p the 2k server cap is just going to expite this. and if 9.2 comes out b4 they update with some real content, you gana be looking this forum post asking for mergers.

This games a filler for alot bc 9.1 is so bad. I dont think alot of you have ever played a PVP territorial game and i dont think you understand how bad griefing is going to get by bored people.

Also remember, this was the company that wanted to sell boost to 60 b4 the game even came out, imagine if they didnt get taken down a peg by the people on twitter hah.

Look at the game at its core, i prolly easily have 10 + hours each on hitting rocks and chopping fire wood, let alone skinning ect. why do you think they nurfed it so bad from beta? =p

And you bought the game?

29 bucks and filler till endwalker =p i kinda buy like every mmo just to test em out, tbh for me the best part of a mmo is launch/new expan :expressionless: i live in thailand I drink, dog run on beach, play games, bar girls.

they wanted to build something differnet and they kinda did… BUT when u have a 20 years wow, lineage and ff as competitors and mentors and u lack fundamental things such as MOUNTS in these big maps, when u lack swimming XD (not fundamental but plz come on, they dont know how to swim?), when u lack proper UI for party, proper interaction for party, repetitive boring quests, minimap? seriously? no minimap? at least have it toggled. jes. it doesnt feel MMORPG at all. AT ALL. wanna talk about lore? beyond the intro video nothing else about the lore, not even a single cinematic. u just found an island with unknown force and u go to explore it. thats it. i mean come on, they couldnt make cinematics?they couldnt create better lorewise quests? you have 3 BIG MMOs to learn from and make the greatest game and u cant learn anything? even the craft system is lackluster and tediusly useless. the guys that support this release of a joke will ruin the game even further. i dont care if its released 1 week and its new and plz spare them. NO, they had so many years, they had 3 big mendors to learn off the basics and they release this unfinished “game”. i like the different gameplay targeting mode but only this. this is not an mmoRPG at least it doesnt feel like it. to the guys that will swear i dont give a prap. i know the state of the game, i know i like it but with a bitter taste and i hope it will change to the best direction.

A lot of us like the questing (which i personally think its top notch, considering the amazing VA), and the story aint bad (kinda short, but its expected since the game just launched). We will see how they build on it in the following years and if they manage to transform it into an amazing saga like warframe, ff14, eso… games that had years to build their main quest story.

The crafting and gathering is simply amazing and the best crafting system that i have ever seen in MMOs, and i’ve been playing MMOs for over 20 years.

Dungeons are mediocre… not great, but not bad either.

Theres tons of PvE content and PvP content. Yes there are 3v3s missing and we could use more dungeons, new zones… stuff like that, but it will all come with time.

It’s an MMORPG it is repetitive by definition.

You should consider that MMOs are probably not for you, or at the very least New World sounds like its not for you. And that’s alright no game out there will satisfy everyone. If you find yourself unhappy with playing New World → just quit.

PS: I’m entirely sure (even thou u will deny it) that you have the same problems with every single MMO out there.

What is the 3rd big mmo?? only know 2 big ones.

some say ESO

No mmo is perfect, i don’t think you understand the diff between seeing problems and upcoming problems and disliking a game.

Oh yes forgot ESO  havent touched ESO after its launch :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah its launch was terrible.

I fired it up a month or two back and the whole intro is diff now =p

trevis i play mmo for almost 20 years, so dont tell me if its for me or not. i played wow from 2005. i played before that lineage, i played for a while ff. spare me the words NOT FOR ME. 2nd the crafting system its itemwise useless beyond the bags and gathering materials. all other items are useless when u find better from drops. 3rd about pve and pvp content. except from 1 dungeons at each specific lvl range what pve content ther is? oh ok sry the corrupted events…ok… pvp? pvp content is bgs. not going with a group of 5-10 ppl to stomp low lvl questing guys. lore? the story isnt bad BUT what story man? seriously what story? other than the intro video what story?

I mostly agree but one part : The crafting system.

While the whole Crafting / Gathering part of the game is cool, no doubt, the crafting system have severals issue that need to be fixed.

You need a absurd quantity of T1 mats to make T4 and T5 items. It’s stupid really. To get one T4 Ingot you need 24 Iron ore for only 6 T4 ore. But the T4 ores aren’t really much rare. They pretty common, in 30+ area, you just need the skill lvl to get it.

Conclusion : Low level Area are filled with high lvl player farming Iron Ore. It’s impossible for low level to gather Iron ore while leveling. T4 mats worth nothing and T1 mats are extremely pricey. At the end you realise that you take a lot of time to level your Gathering skills for nothing because higher Tier mats are worthless (selling for 0.1g at the AH) and the only valuable mats are T1 mats.

PS: Forgot to mention also, the leveling of crafting profession to 200. Because crafting T3 or T4 items actually reward cost much more mats than it reward XP. You get less XP per Iron ore crafting higher Tier items. So we’re at a point where to level your proffession, you’d better just farm Iron and only Iron. That’s definitely not good design and need to be tweaked for sure.
So yeah, I won’t say that the crafting system is perfect.

However I love to gather in this game. I really enjoy this world for sure !

It’s about taking al the shinny and make the numbers bigger so you hit things with bigger numbers much like any other mmo really.

If someone had to explain what a game is about to you, you have to question why are you playing it?

Only you know what attracts you to a game.

With that said, this game is about presenting you with a world leaving what you want to do up to you. There is no point other than living in the game world.

Do you want to be a cook? Or maybe an amorer? Or perhaps an adventurer getting materials for others? Whatever you feel like doing is what the game is about and it’d absolutely refreshing.

Rift was Great! and then it wasn’t heh

Yeah this is a PvP game with PvE just rushed in. The PvP is too structured and restrictive. Too many of the same people will be holding down the slots. The fort thing doesn’t have massive enough battles and to just repeat it endlessly is odd.

Repetitive PvE and repetitive fort fights ? pointless crafting will only pay off after a massive grind to end game?

The game was originally intended to be an EVE Online meets Survival meets Souls type game. It had full loot PvP (that’s why you had extensive crafting … you lost your gear in PvP), it had Souls-like combat (slow fights based around positioning, timing and hitstun), it had very little PvE and quests, and was built around PvPers and crafters banding together to control territories and fight over them.

They decided to change the game for various reasons, most of them relating to the fact that the above design is an ultra-niche, and Amazon Corporate didn’t want an ultra-niche game. But they didn’t have the time or money to redo the entire thing from scratch at that point, so instead they “retrofit” it by building things into the game (PvE, mostly) on top of the existing base of full-loot PvP, territory control, Souls-combat etc as quickly as they could with a limited time remaining to launch the game … with the result being a game that has no inherently coherent design. It has a bunch of disparate elements – some from the initial design, some from the retrofit – that don’t sit well together and many elements that don’t fit one or the other design.

This is why crafting is head scratching. Why have this crafting system when loot is never destroyed and gear drops from the sky in expos? The reason is that the crafting system itself was designed mostly when the game was full-loot PvP and has to be understood in that context. The expos were added in as a part of the retrofit, and they don’t mesh well with a crafting system designed around full-loot.

This is why the PvE has so much back and forth running between one hub and quest areas. The map was not designed for PvE, it was designed for territory-control based open PvP. There was no need for local quest hubs in the original design, so the world, which dates from the original design, does not have them. So … when the game was retrofit to be PvE, the PvE was plopped into the world, but redesigning the entire map to have multiple local quest hubs (as is normal in PvE MMOs) would have been too time-consuming and expensive, so the quests almost all originate and end in one hub per zone.

This is why there are no mounts. The game was supposed to be open PvP and mounts are hard to integrate into that well (not impossible, mind you, but not easy). But then the game was retrofit for PvE, and then you had the problem of the one quest hub per zone, and suddenly no mounts makes no sense to many.

This is why combat is floaty and odd, because the original slower Souls-like combat was gutted to make it more accessible to traditional MMO fans by not having light attack hitstun, and instead having more attack and ability spam combat. Again, instead of redesigning the combat system they just retrofit it, and the result is a combat system that has something missing in it – it isn’t as satisfying as either a Souls system (no hit stun, too much spam) or a true traditional MMO system (too few abilities, as we see many complaining about), because it was designed as one system, then altered to make it more accessible but not really satisfying, either. Like everything else, it’s a mush of the original design and the retrofit.

The game is ultimately about this: what happens when you switch core design ideas more than halfway through a game’s development cycle, rather than simply erasing the white board and starting over from scratch in designing a different game.

I see more now. Thanks

That is the thing about NW. Ive dedicated my past 2 days and nights to it while in my holidays. I still didnt get bored of anything. Gathering is tedious but the pace is a really special part of the game right now. Gathering is tedious but if feels like youre accomplishing something. Im sitting with around 2k coarse leather in my storage at the moment waiting to get more hemp as soon as the maintenance is done.

I kind of dont understand the people who say that the game is lacking content at the moment. Yes it will get boring in the future at some point but for many people that enjoy the gathering, refining, armormaking and so on in this game this point will be pretty far into the future.

Most people that rush to the end of the game ask themselves when theres gonna be new content and thatas with every update in every mmorpg. That is a problem in the gaming community though and not in the developers control. I dont advice at all to rush the game but i rather advice many people to take their time, maybe gather a bit of materials to make stuff and such and then maybe sell them on the player market or salvage them.

Im a big fan of numbers going up but i think im speaking for a big portion of the community when im saying that gathering is ALOT of fun.

The story sadly isnt all too interesting as far as ive seen. That is a factor that the game didnt do as good but that still doesnt make it a bad game.

Also short note just play on smaller servers lol. Player cap doesnt mean anything if theres medium population servers running just fine with all functions intact. Pvp still fun on em.
