I dont need crafting at all?

I craft and harvest because I enjoy it and it is relaxing. But outside of that crafting allows you to (eventually) get the perks and stats you want on your gear and to get higher gear scores. Crafting isn’t for everyone, but if you enjoy it the system in this game is rewarding.

There is no point. You invest thousands of materials and for what? Something worse than a lvl 60 can obtain from grinding elites for a few mins?

Armoring is a bit better off than weapon crafting because of bags. But that golden goose isn’t everlasting.

I crafted a life staff that actually turned out to be slightly better than the one I bought from the faction rep. It made me realize that crafting is actually useful and maybe I can craft some better armor or whatever in the future.

Also in specific regards to armor or weapons crafted versus dropped, it may be more convenient to craft the specific armor/weapon you want instead of just waiting for the right drop.

Oh, and you can craft (cook) attribute-altering meals if you level your cooking ability.

Yes crafting is very much needed. sure there are plenty of drops and on the PvM side this is all good and suitable equipment. However the craftsman can create armor needed to bridge the gap in some of the gear other players may lack, or create entire sets of armor on demand, to meet a new role that the players need to fill.

Tools are craft only, so without people doing engineering, there’d be no steel, starmetal and orichalcum tools on the market.

Bags are craft only, so enjoy those 2 bags you can get from quests, and that it without a crafter.

Storage chests for your house are practically craft only. that it unless you want to spend thousands of gold to fill out your house slots with them, or grind endlessly to get one.

I also have the luck that I am running with several companies, being one of their main craftsmen. Usually i’ll get an order for something like 5 good sets of armour (good stats and perks), which can lead me down the RNG hole, and crafting 20+ sets to get the right perks and stats. Without good crafters, those companies would have to grind endlessly to fill their armour slots with the right armour.

Im almost 60, I havnt really crafted anything. Im making some furniture, but that doesnt really count. Ive never made a weapon or armor. I do a little cooking and arcane stuff, but thats about it. I mostly gather, because I like to refine and sell.
Its said at 60 the quests stop so money drys up, Im not sure about all this. But you might have to rely a little more on the AH once youre 60, not sure.

Eventually I will probably craft everything, but havnt even really started.

Its a little deceptive when you say ‘craft only’, you make it seem like they can only be crafted by YOU, these items can be bought from the AH. It isnt craft only in the sense that you can only have them if you craft them.

Ive bought everything youve mentioned from the AH, except the storage chests.

It’s not deceptive. They’re saying that without people such as us willing to craft there would be no bags for you to buy from the AH to begin with.

You may not yourself need crafting, but you need people who craft.

exactly as Heracine said it

You don’t really need crafting, and especially right now it’s just a big money sink.

However, you need gathering skills so you can gather all stuff on the road and sell it to crafters.

I would say definitely give it a go because crafting is very fun and it allows you to build your own stuff. For me there is nothing more enjoyable then crafting my own fishing rod.

But if you want to actually live from crafting then that’s another story. The problem is that crafted weapon and armor does not sell, because of all the loot that comes from the mobs. Unless you are full time job player that can craft the best stuff for lvl 60. But even then, once everyone equips their favorite stuff, I do not see what will be the purpose of crafting.

Making your own Tools and Bags for example, and the pride and satisfaction of doing it yourself.
That’s what keeps me going.

I found it useful for gearing up. People talk about finding gear all the time, but so far I find my armour is yet to be replaced by any drop. Even the faction armour seems pointless to me - my made gear is same or better score, better stats without needing to buy tokens, and doesn’t cost the high coin and tokens (well, it does in mats I gathered and used instead of sold but then I wanted to craft so at least I am getting use of it)

Go to the tradepost and buy an upgrade. In many cases it’s cheaper than repairing. Lol.

You will need lvl 150 stonecutting to be able to cut the keys for the end-game dungeons, as they are bind on pickup and not tradable.

There are legendary weapons / armors that are bind on pickup and can only be used by the crafter that require 200 of the related crafting skill. Some of them are very good, like the rapier, and some of them are very bad and useless, so your mileage may vary here.

Pretty much everything else can be traded / bought, but you’ll always get the best deal by just making it yourself since you gather so many resources just for playing the game normally.

This is by design.

Needing the lowest tier of material to refine the highest tiers means that the low level stuff picked up by low level players always has value even to max level players.

It’s a good system, more MMOs should utilize it.

In what way is it pointless?? I focused pretty hard on crafting since release, here’s a chest piece that I’m able to craft at 200 armoring (just deciding if i’d rather sell it or equip it)

Totally agree. Too bad it confuses people when their Orichalcum ore is worth less than their iron ore. Like yeah, look how many steps and mats I have to use before I can even use the Orichalcum! I don’t just throw it in the forge! >_<

I did the Amerine? dungeon over and over, I got so much gear every run I had to salvage 90% of it and I ended up with some high level stuff for a level 25 that totaly negated the use of making my own gear, apart from bags.

Nice coat!

Stupid question but I really do not know. Can you craft “named” items? Also, can you craft things like “Engineering Hat”? If so, is it random or you can add a perk and guarantee the craft?
