I used my Depths orb and my group then proceeded to get obliterated on the last guy. I’m level 47, all heavy armor, hatchet/great axe, and the guy was killing me in about 2 seconds. So we wiped repeatedly and then gave up. Our healer was level 52 also.
So now I look into how I get a tuning orb…what a joke that is. Where do these components even come from? I’m supposed to farm for hours for one orb only to possibly wipe again? This depths zone is ridiculous. Why make this so hard that we all can’t even progress a MAIN Story quest?
This game is frustrating me to no end. I don’t think it’s worth the effort. Expeditions should have never been required for the main quest line.
I’m also constantly broke in this game. I can’t even afford to play this.
I did the dungeon twice, first run we were stuck on first boss for a few pulls but once we got the strat down we crushed the rest of the run. Second time we crushed the entire run. If you didn’t have someone in heavy armor with taunt gem on a sword and shield you are going to have a bad time against the last boss.
So, I’ll admit I’m not a fan of the tuning orb situation; I think it’s a very weird choice to gate combat participation (dungeons) on leveling crafting (in order to make the orbs).
Ideally, I think the materials for the orb—and the orb itself—would be on the marketboard, so those who don’t want to engage in farming the mats or crafting the orb could just buy them, and it would open up an avenue of income for crafters. If they don’t want the orb (or the materials you farm to get the orb) to be sold on the marketboard, they should make it so you can trade a drop (or multiples of a drop) from the corruption portals to an NPC to get the orbs so that you have to farm for your own orb, but don’t need to level crafting to do it.
And if they don’t want to do either of those things, I’m inclined to agree that the expeditions maybe shouldn’t be required for the main scenario.
That said.
Only one person in the party needs a tuning orb for any given run. If you have a company, see if someone else in that company has an orb for the Depths and is willing to party up with you; as long as they (or someone else) in the party has an orb, the whole party can go in. That might be able to get you through that part of the story?
Just remember to go prone when the laser is up. Also, keep tanking the boss when the ads are up and EVERYONE else kill those as fast as possible (watching out for those balls).
Healer needs to keep an eye on the tank’s health when this is happening.
I super appreciate that they’ve made prone useful and have a purpose thoughout the game, and the implementation makes sense!
There are a bunch of caves and recesses that are only accessible via crawling too.
Have managed to escape a few hairy PvP situations by diving and crawling under and past certain structures too. Makes you feel very present in the world.
Prone is much easier for those who have medium and heavy armour.
I’m lucky, I have light armour and generally dodge roll. But there are a couple of “oh shit” moments when I was fighting an ad and all I could do was go prone.
Not everyone in the group needs to have the orb. Just tag along with a group and do it without it.
I already cleared it 4 times, had only one orb.
On the first boss we usually have to rotate people around until we find something that works. On the last boss just have to pray that the folks eventually learn the fight and they usually do. That being said last run i had a guild with really bad folks in it… Still ended up clearing the dungeon but it was rough, you could tell those guys didnt care much for tactics or having a functional build, so you have those ppl to deal with from time to time. 3/4 it was really nice runs though.
If you are broke you are doing something wrong.
I always sell the gear i find, pretty much my sole income source along with money from quests. Had enough money to respec over and over (i wanted to try every build in the game before i settled on healer). Still at 7k gold now with 3 T4 bags.
I really think Orbs should be tradable or at least the mats should. If you are a group of friends you all need to skill up to make orbs due to random reward chance of getting what you need.
Locking group content behind crafting was an odd decision, but one I could get behind if done right, locking the items needed for key behind BoP however is a poor move
