Hello community! I’ve decided to complain a little today and I’m hoping a get a few answers so I can understand this better. Please AGS, don’t bother putting those macro guides that have never helped anyone.
I have a problem with my hardware usages, the game in my point of view tries to use too little and because of it runs like sh*t.
I’ve heard people complain of the game using 100% all the time, but I think that’s a problem on lower end setups.
This is my current setup:
Intel i5 11400
AMD Radeon 6800XT
16gb of RAM
The game is on an NVME.
Windsward (In town), 1440p, Medium Settings, avg 40-60 FPS
GPU Usage avg: 40-55%
CPU Usage avg: 50-70%
Windsward (open world), 1440p, Medium Settings, avg 80-120 FPS
GPU Usage avg: 50-80% (I’ve seen it drop to 40% in a duel)
CPU Usage avg: 60-75%
I understand my CPU is a bit outdated and this is a CPU heavy game but those numbers do not look like bottlenecking to me.
FPS drops are a regular, sometimes the stuttering gets so annoying I just leave the game. I’ve seen huge stutters and when I glance at the usages, the GPU is at 40% and CPU is 60%, which is a joke. I play a lot of games, including mmos and this is never the case. I don’t mind the game using 90-100% if it means I’ll get to enjoy it.
Does anyone know if there is a fix or is it something that I’ll never be able to change?
Thank you to everyone giving me a few minutes of their time!
I’ll do my best to explain. It’s your CPU. And ONLY because the poor optimization of new world. Because I’m willing to bet you do not have this problem with other games.
Same thing happened to me when I upgraded my GPU first and then ended up having to upgrade my CPU anyways.
Ideally you want your GPU to use as much as it needs, but your processor cannot keep up. So it is “borrowing” resources from your GPU to compensate. This is leaving your GPU not running to its potential.
Upgrade your CPU and you’ll see much better numbers, but be warned again… Don’t expect a miracle because this game is not optimized well.
NW is not able to use the CPU to 100% for two reasons:
1 - game don’t use all cores (many games only use 2-3)
2- processor is waiting for data from ram and is idle. Overclocking the ram can help a little but it won’t solve it
I will try this but from what I understand this fixes some type of latency issues with the game at the cost of some performance. Thanks for the idea nonetheless.
I recommend using Nvidia Profile Inspector. It will help with your framerate and it provides a serious competitive advantage. You can disable the rendering of foliage and solid objects, such as boulders or rocks, and even set the draw distance for when this happens. That way, if you’re on an older pc, the game won’t boh down as much when there’s a lot happening on screen. The developers have already stated it is not against ToS or considered cheating to do this. A lot of players use the tool because New World isn’t optimized very well.
That’s pretty much why. I had a worse and less capable CPU than you do, so mine was indeed at 90% or more. However what mateus987 is true nonetheless. You can try some smaller upgrades or tricks to help… and they may indeed help a little bit. But IMO if it’s feasible for you to do, and your motherboard is compatible (make sure to check!) I would upgrade that CPU.
I mean do you. I’m just some dude on the internet, don’t spend your money because of what I say. Definitely try some of these suggestions from these other people if you haven’t already. You never know.
You can reply to this too and I’ll make some suggestions if you want to avoid spending money first.
Certain configuration settings may not be enabled, XMP/Rebar/etc
Unfortunately, if you don’t want to upgrade, try to tune your PC. Overclock the CPU speeds to all core overclock, ensure your ram is running at max speed via xmp or overclock ram mhz. Install on nvme. Enabled ReBar. Update all drivers
I hit 100% GPU utilization in open world but never in high intensity combat moments, that’s when the game needs more CPU computational power and the CPU/ram cannot feed the gpu fast enough
If you do try to overclock your CPU, which will not yield much result because it’s not a k model (has better oc capabilities) check your temperatures. I’m gonna guess that you are using the intel stock cooler? Not much headroom if yes.
Also check your power supply temperatures, mine was overheating b/c the fan was not working. Now I’ve put a fan on it always on and the PC don’t reboot anymore while playing NW
