Ok ok. Donât leave yet! I have a couple of legitimate suggestions that people may or may not like but I think that theyâre very reasonable.
Update every weapon(not every single skill for obvious reasons, but most) with the same short recovery frames that bows enjoy right now, by adding some type of way the each weapon can animation cancel to reduce these windows like bow can with pen shot. For example, if you were to use skewer, you will notice that youâre rooted for a time at the end. What if you could tap javelin and dodge just as you touch the ground to cancel that root? I think that this would be a wonderful addition to the game. I feel like even bows would like this change since it âheightens the skill ceilingâ as they say.
Find a way to raise the skill floor of the bow, while keeping the skill ceiling where it is so that there arenât so many people using them all of the time.
For example, change nothing else about the bow EXCEPT make the draw time for heavies longer, like it was before.
Shortening recovery animations is generally bad. We need recovery animations somewhere in between the spear and bow. Bows are too fast and spears are too long. If you use an ability it should make you vulnerable if you use it at an inopportune time or miss it. That being said not all abilties are created equal. High impact abilties that do alot of damage or stagger should have longer recovery animations generally; however, it really depends on the ability. I really tend to like the abilties that have multiple âphasesâ like cross-cut and rapid shot where the first two hits are low-moderate damage and fast but the animation can be cancelled where the last phase does more damage but the recovery animation is more punishing. I think perforate should be changed to work this way. Skewer should definitely have a shorter recovery animation, more in line with raging torrent.
I donât disagree with you, but AGS has been weirdly quiet about the bow having effectively 0 punishment for
If you know what youâre doing. Which brings me to the thought that if they arenât going to make bow punishable, then they need to make other weapons the same way. Like I said before, I wouldnât want it to be all skills. Maybe just one or two skills for each weapon.
Iâve always thought they should do this honestly. I played bow almost since the begining but the movement changes made me appreciate bow far more. I have no problem if they let melee keep swinging and moving.
I get the other side of the argument that there should be vulnerable times but it just feels bad to be slowed or rooted in place. I like the free movement. It just feels 1000000 times better.
As for point #2, I did feel heavy attack was too quick on bow but I also felt it was too slow before the update. Maybe somewhere in the middle.
