Why should I come with any excuses There is nothing to excuse. NW leveling is not WoW leveling, I don´t know what you don´t understand about it.
You don´t like it, I do. You like WoW leveling, I don´t. Thats how gaming works, different people, different tastes. Who are you to come here and demand leveling to be how YOU want it? Get out. Go level up in Classic or whatever.
Maybe try to live outside of games so you don´t burn out in 4 days.
The game went from 17k population to 125k, hard for you right? Seems like the game actually grows even with “mobile incompetent” devs, right?
Various suggestions were made during beta such as reducing or eliminating town board mission XP and present different benefits. That is obviously something that is meant to be repeated for various reasons (supporting your settlement, increasing your Settlement benefits, blah blah blah).
But you can bet players would cry foul if AGS did that.
At the same time players want to grind all that and be rewarded.
Ultimately it comes down to appeasing the most players. Players like you are collateral damage and acceptable losses.
Just look at the feedback on this thread. Everyone knew about all this and similar issues long ago. You are late to the party. Now almost a year in, it’s clear who AGS wants to listen to and how they want to handle the situation.
Of course they could revamp it a year later and have a second round of “Fresh Start Servers” and a third chance to re-launch the game as if it were new. Great cash grab idea right there.
AND
You forget that any slowdown in levelling will absolutely not be tolerated by the PvP community for whom getting to the end and maximizing their power is top priority. Even if they are PvX that will still be their priority because of their PvP interest.
You can consider that maybe re-doing the quests to make them more interesting is AGS’s way of trying to get people to stop and smell the roses and appreciate the work they put into world building, despite levelling unavoidably too fast.
Obviously it isn’t working well enough.
Who care who ags wants to listen to, they had almost a million concurrent players and blundered it because they are not wise. Probably shouldnt even have released the game yet at the time…
The point i think people are complaining about, and rightfully so, is will people stay long term this time?
Yea but lost ark is free with pay to gategrind functions, new world got peoples money and thats all they care about, they dont care if people stay long term…evidently
Lmao there isn’t any worst combat system in videogames than typical tag targeting piano combat ala Wow. I don’t play it since 2011 and really wonder how can people enjoy the hugely outdated combat and graphics. New World combat system is the best any mmo had ever probably on par with BDO.
Yes sure. But there are also other factors such as exploits literally weekly and AGS not able to do anything about them fast enough. Remember when wars were won by melting the servers with Ice Gauntlet AoE lag? That’s a factor too, not just your one complaint about levelling.
As for “not even released the game at that time…”
Yeah, I agree. But the real world demanded it probably. Development time is NOT FREE. They had to pay bills. I think we see that in a lot of western games that get pushed out despite being buggy and bad. Less so from eastern games maybe because they have higher standards, more money, or lower costs.
I think we should not underestimate cultural differences. Lost Ark came from the east. It’s still popular there AFAIK so there was good hype, and definitely we see AGS is very, very, good at hype.
Then it hits western demographics and playstyles that are very different.
Just look at eastern company mobile games for example. They are obviously catered to people who do NOT have a lot of play time. An increasing number of them are literally idle games where adventuring is done for you, you just watch.
I’m certainly not surprised that Lost Ark lost a lot of people. Amazon hype brought them in, playstyles made them leave.
The leveling was better at lower levels, but the higher level stuff is still pretty shit. Mobs are all over the roads, and you just have to run through them and hope you can out heal it before you die. (why, they just more annoying then anything else)
Lots of the higher level quest are UPS quest. Get quest in town, run across map, do quest, back to town, part 2 of quest, go back to the same spot again, and kill something else. Those quest should just update on the spot, to the next phase when completed. Why all the running?
What is the point of leveling anyways? You spend x amount of hours leveling up. Only to reach a level cap, which basically puts you back to level 1, where you have a whole new system of leveling your gear this time, why can’t we just start at that?
IMO they should just remove the player levels from the game all together. Keep xp weapon skill ups, maybe make that take twice as long. Leave all the quest in the game as is for the story, rep, money and gear reasons.
Lol new world has good third person ranged shooter combat but…its basically a mobile phone combat system with 3 abilities and lock on auto aim lunge target melee…dont go overboard
I guess you are too used to the memory combat of piano tab targeting, but the fact that you have 3 skills is cause its action combat system which means you actually have to move, evade and coordinate your attacks, instead of playinga symphony from Bethoven with your keyboard while you calmly eat doritos cause at the end its all about gear checks and numbers instead of actual skill.
Lol get outta heeeere, nw melee combat is automated lock on aiming with mobile phone 3 buttons and left click spam. If it didnt have third person shooter ranged combat saving it, it would be underwhelming to say the least
It is why the fresh starts are popular with returning players
We get blame for quitting when the game clearly had problems and still does.
It’s a really good game but i think its having an identity crisis.
I really like the new 1-30 and it was great to around players again.
If we got an expansion for Christmas I’ll eat my words.
Current end game is not that appealing, crafting is becoming an only rich mans game.
I still can’t understand the hype about freshserver. Leveling in this game was torture for me at some point. I’m used to either doing quests or just grinding dull mobs. But the sidequests are a trap as the walkways don’t make up for the XP and unfortunately grinding isn’t effective here and there’s no great loot either.
While this is true, it is also true of this genre of MMO, so this argument is not really valid.
When you strip down a quest to its components, it’s basically this.
The real difference in questing is how it is presented – the story wrapping, and especially how that story is told.
Early New World we had primitive MMO style where an NPC talks at you and you read a wall of text. Not even interesting cutscenes of people emoting rather than sitting there like a lump of rock.
SWTOR and even something like Blade and Soul gets it right. Your quests are still UPS but how it’s told makes you feel like you’re the protagonist in a movie, that you’re doing something impactful to the story line and the game world.
To feel like your character isn’t static and has grown.
But PvPers don’t care about this because they all just want to get to max possible power to not feel vulnerable. Don’t underestimate the amount of complaining they put out and the effect that plus their play habits have on the game.
For example, Expertise is basically to slow PvP down. Before Expertise, they just used RMT money to buy the latest exploitable weapon from the Trading Post and go power level it to get the meta skills. With Expertise they can’t just do that. They’re throttled with some time gating.
So Expertise as a solution is a complete misunderstanding of the PvP mentality. In a levelled game, they will just try to max level as fast as possible no matter what. Any kind of slowdown will be called gatekeeping and they will want catch-up mechanics for new players (or new accounts after their old ones get banned).
All that talk about scaling was never going to work at all, not enough people would ever have been satisfied by a concept that is fundamentally a paradox – where they try to make levelling both relevant and irrelevant at the same time.
This is why truly popular PvP games do not really have skill-based levelling or gear levelling but is instead focussed on player skill. It is also why most games with RPG levelling also have only niche PvP interest.
The next AGS solution is traits, and making it hard to get your favourite traits on a single weapon, e.g., with RNG crafting and adding even more traits to the pool. That works well to extend gameplay but it sure isn’t making anyone happy except RMT who gets to sell players gold so they can buy the lucky roll near-BIS pieces from the Trading Post or other players who buy up bot materials to randomly roll 20+ pieces and throw away 19-20 of them.
Weapon XP and skill trees is still levelling. When people zoom through that it’ll be the same issue. If you throttle people there you’ll have the same issue.
Levelling is levelling.
